Hi all, just awaiting delivery of my first drone. Went for the DJI mini 4 pro. Steep learning curve ahead. Done the flyer and operator registrations, joined the club etc. Silly question but does anyone run flying courses and are they worth it? Any tips for starting to learn to fly?
I have one major query already about where to fly. … SSSIs appear to cover everything from a rare geological formation to an important bird nesting site and everything inbetween. How can you tell which SSSIs to avoid?

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

Sounds a silly answer, but get used to how the sticks move the drone. For example the actios are opposite when it faces away or towards you, so, I know for me, it took some time to he to grips, then all of a sudden it just clicked. @Hotrodspike helped @Foley and myself a lot with different manouvers that get you to grips with the basics.
Hi , and welcome i a m new at this myself and have the same drone , there is a drone training site at

I havent attended myself as it was £90 per session so i just thought i would keep practising myself.
All the best Bob.
Like what Sarah @FoleyMrs said really and get out into some open like a field and just keep practicing really. It might take a bit of time but will depend on what type of learner you are. Russ @Foley advised me when i started to draw like shapes in the air like a square, maybe a triangle to try and get used to the sticks and how they move
Also maybe watch some youtube videos as there are some good ones out there. A member of this club @ianinlondon has a YT channel with a lit of informative videos on a lot of different topics like how to fly, setting etc. His channel name is the same as his handle on here.
Bob, not sure where about in Warrington you are, but for somewhere to practice, you won’t go far wrong on Sow Brook playing fields in Lymm. Plenty of space and not too busy. Top tip though, don’t go after its rained for a few hours as it can get very wet.space near l
Thanks for that, might just check that out, but at the moment i am considering flying around Paddington over the river as i believe the (Restricted Area EGR323) is not a restriction for drones under 250g.
All the best, Bob.
