New member in Shifnal

Hi all, just joined grey arrows. Just got my first drone, DJI mini 3, and was recommended this community.
I was looking forward to my first flight tonight but found that the whole of shifnal is in a yellow zone :frowning:
Oh well tomorrows another day

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.

There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.

After a lot of searching i believe you can fly there but have to be extra cautious. Obviously we have Cosford not far away and Shawbury. I believe shawbury is a training base for helicopter pilots ao there is a risk of low flying helicopters. Hopefully im right and can fly there as long as im careful

I know, i should have researched before i moaned about. But, in my defence I’m new to all this and the rules can be a little confusing but I’ll get there :slight_smile:

I just looked up Shifnal on Drone Scene.

The only flight restriction zone I could see was over RAF Cosford.

Looks like you’re good to go :slight_smile:

I’ve been doing the same mate, lots of yellow all around the coastal area were I am (Wirral) as it is a peninsula so all 3 sides are listed as SSSI’s

Alright mate, welcome from the Black Country.
I think the main problem you’ve got is the Air Ambulance base at Cosford (if it’s still there) as they can take off/land with very little warning.

Yeah i was thinking that, luckily you can hear them quite a while before they get here :slight_smile: . Having said that i havent heard one for a few days.

Had a very small flight today in the garden. Good fun, very hot though, and I cant wait to do a full flight soon.
