New North Yorkshire Dronie

Hi all,

I bought my first drone this month - May, and bought it second-hand, but BNIB - fully sealed. I got my hands on a DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo with RC, 3 batteries, bag, spare props, etc. It set me back £340, but I don’t think that’s a bad price given the condition.

I’ve done a few flights, and captured a few photos… nothing spectacular, but just getting to grips with flying, controls, etc.

Had a quick look over this community forum and have to say, I think I’m going to like it here. There looks to be a lot of very helpful, knowledgable people on here, and I look forward to learning from you, chatting with you, and just generally benefitting from what looks to be a great community.

Couple of questions, if I may…

  • Thoughts on the drone I went for, and the price paid? Suitable for recreational use for a first-timer?
  • Membership to this community… worth shelling out the £25 for Gold Membership? I’m thinking the insurance benefit alone is probably worth it, no?
  • Any top tips for newbies?

Thanks in advance for your time, advice, and looking forward to getting to know folks!

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.

There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

Our Bronze Members are able to enjoy a lot of great services for free but our Silver and Gold Members are eligible for a whole lot more! Read all the details about our Membership Benefits?

Hi Adam @ayorkshiredad from the other side of the Pennines :waving_hand:t2:

It’s bullet proof. A very time-tested model, no issues what so ever, an excellent choice

Can’t advise on the price paid, it’s not something I keep an eye on but it’s a solid drone.

Very much so, it works out to just £2 a month

It’s even better value for money when you add up the discounts you get elsewhere, those alone more than cover the cost of your membership.

Not to mention full access to Drone Scene too.

Start off somewhere quiet, so you can focus.

Try an empty field if possible, lots of space to get some practice in

Also try and get to a local meetup, lots of members there will provide more advice than you can shake a stick at.
