New pilot in West Midlands

Hello all,

I’ve been hovering (if you’ll pardon the pun) the GADC forums for a few weeks now & thought I’d get in on the fun. Bought my first drone, DJI Mini 3, mid July after wanting to try for years. Always put myself off by thinking of cost, faff etc but after a work colleague showed me his drone footage it prompted me to do some proper research. For some reason I always thought drones were thousands of pounds, so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered the DJI Mini range.

Based in the surrounding area of Birmingham, unfortunately within the FRZ but I did conduct my first flight in my garden after receiving the go ahead from BHX ATC. Since then I have flown in south-west Wales & the southern coast of England. I look forward to hopefully honing my drone photography skills!

Cheers,
Tom

Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

Hello @t0mroche . I was in the east B’ham area for a long time, know it well.
Sold my moms house in March after 50 years of living there and watching the planes cross the bottom of her garden.

Took this on our last day.

That is a long time! Excellent bit of footage there, nice one. I keep saying it’s amazing how a bit of elevation can make even Birmingham look scenic :joy:

Keep your drone handy with you in the car, you never know what you’ll come across.
I just got back from scouting for the birthday challenge and logged several places to return to to fly - and all within a 10 minute drive.
