New to FPV in Milton Keynes.

Hi guys, here I am with the mandatory introduction

I used to fly VLOS ago with small drones indoors. Nothing special and I was not particularly good but not bad either. I think FPV was not a thing at the time. But then I moved and my favourite drone got lost in the process, and some time passed, regulations changed and I got busy with other things so at some point I stopped flying at all. This was probably around 10 years ago.

Recently I remembered my old Phanthom2 collecting dust in the shed and though, let’s take a look at the current regulations and scene and see what has happened in all this time.
I got my Operator ID, my Flyer ID, and gave the old drone another try. And it was fun but not all that exciting.

And then I discovered FPV and all those videos of people doing amazing tricks with freestyle quads and knew that’s what I wanted!

So as a responsible adult (yeah… not in my wettest dream xD) I did some research and soon I learned what was it all about, what I will need to get if I wanted to try it and what were the caveats.

I got myself a TX16S MK2, some simulators and a couple of tiny whoops (Mobeetle6 and Meteor 75 Pro) so I can practice what I do on the simulator in real life in a safe way. Also some goggles and tons of batteries.

And that’s where I am now. I am able to more or less fly in the sim but it is a lot more difficult at my small home. I can hover and do basic movements just fine and I think my throttle control is not bad for a total beginner. Yaw+Roll turns are still difficult IRL, but I know it was going to be a steep learning curve so I just keep practicing when I can.

My goal for now is to be able to fly my whoops at home, and start to fly 5 inch freestyle ones outside, if I can find more people to fly with for the spotter rule.

If you somehow managed to read all that thank you and sorry for my broken English, it is not my native language!

@DaveJaVu is in your area and flies FPV. He might be better able to advise you of places you can fly and any local meets. I think he flies a fair bit around MK.

Hi @Ballantin and welcome to GADC :+1: :+1:

Hi @Ballantin - welcome to GADC :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thank you guys for the warm welcome :stuck_out_tongue:

@DeanoG60 thanks a lot for all the links and information, I have added myself to the map and become a member in Donescene, very useful tool.

I may be a little green to fly with others yet, plus my 2 drones are not really meant to be used outside, but I will be looking forward to meet other pilots.

fair few of us an hour or so north of you who meet up fairly regularly :+1:t2:

Welcome @Ballantin . Don’t worry about using a tiny whoop for meet ups. I did at willington first time I met three guys. Only issue was… Saw 5 inchers flying round and then my bank hasn’t thanked me since!

Hi @Ballantin - welcome to the fun zone :sunglasses: Really good to read your intro to FPV… tbh controller / sim then something small and whoopy is probs about the perfect on ramp into all of this. Not the route I chose (5" iFlight Nazgul - utter bonkers mayhem and not really v. sensible for a first drone!)

MK is a genuine playground for tiny whoops and sub 250g stuff - there are so many places around the city and surrounding areas. Let me know if you want some map pins to some cool spots.

Enjoy the ride. :ok_hand:

Thank you! To say that I am excited to get my hands on it will be an understatement

It may not be the best indoors and definitely not the best outdoors but it can be used in both environments just fine, that’s why I when for this one. That and the prop guards, I am still to newbie to fly naked props hehehe.

The guys at UMT will look after you. (Is it bad that I recognise their order page?!:laughing:)

When you’re ready to adventure out, this was one of my first (and still favourite) spots in MK. Park in the car park, walk under the road and look right. Lovely spot with little wooden bridges and trees, and also open field next to it for you to spread your wings

(There are so many places in MK like this tbh)

It looks and feels amazing in the hand. I haven’t been able to use it yet, I missed the parcel with the batteries yesterday (we went to Cannock Chase with the MTBs hehehe).
