Hi all.
I have a Lito X1 with the RC N3 controller.
Finding the phone display on Fly app a bit small so: Do I buy a second hand RC2 or a screen holder for the RC N3 and an IPad Mini 5?
Costs are about £200 for the RC2 and £100 but the IPad Mini 5 but what are the pros and cons.
HELP! The money is burning a hole on my pocket.
The RC2 is just a simple quick power up and off you go solution - no need to worry about cables / mounts etc. I have the N3 with my Neo but now I have the RC2 that I use with my Air 3s I use my neo way more than I use to as I just could not be bothered with the faf of setup.
The setup with the iPad mini will give you a bigger screen - do I think its worth it for the screen size - mmm nope as the setup time and lack of faf of charging two devices and ensuring the fit etc I don’t think it worth it. RC2 all day long for me.

That gave me yet another scare but lots of the YouTube posts show the RC2 with the Lito.

yeah you can clearly see it on their site - so your good there mate. Its a great bit of kit - years ago I had the original mini with the a mount for an iPad mini too then when I got my mini 3pro with the screen it was a massive game changer for me.
Personally I use a combination of the RC2 and RC-N3 (with a Google Pixel 8 Pro).
Lots of folks will sing the praises of the RC2, but it’s big achilles heal is it’s maximum screen brightness. 700 nits doesn’t cut it on a bright sunny day. So then you’ll need a hood…and even that only gets you so far.
On bright days I turn to my RC-N3 because my coupled Pixel phone has a max 2400 nits, which very noticeably outperforms the RC2.
I never even thought of that.
Dola says the IPad Mini 5 is only 500 to 540.
And there’s not another big screen device anywhere near 2400.
Doesn’t seem to be anything that can match that phone brightness level so I guess it’s got to be the RC2 plus a sun shade as I need a bigger screen than a phone can give me.

If you do decide to get a RC2, keep an eye on Amazon DJI drone combos that include the RC2. Every so often Amazon will (for a very short period) knock about 40% off their normal price on these combos. So buy it when that happens, keep the RC2 and eBay the rest.
I did this on a Flip and RC2 combo and ended up (after selling the Flip) with a brand new RC2 for £180. On Amazon a new RC2 is around £320 and even a refurb on eBay from China is £220. So it can be worth it if you’re prepared to put in the effort.
My Pixel 8 Pro screen is actually bigger than the screen on my RC2. But I just lucked out having that as my everyday phone. I doubt it’s a financially viable alternative unless Pixel 8 phones have dropped considerably in price.
Also keep in mind the RC2 does give you extra custom buttons/dial plus dynamic Homepoint (the drone will fly back to your controller, even if it’s moving, like on a boat). That’s why I end up using both. My RC-N3 on sunny days, the RC2 the rest of the time.
I’m not as up to date as everyone here as I’m using a Mavic 2 Pro which didn’t have the option of a controller with a built in screen. I use an iPad Mini as it’s the biggest device that fits in the controller’s clamp arms. I use the drone to do landscape photography so the screen space is so much better than my phone. I have a hood which clips on for if it’s bright. Yes it’s a faff getting it all ready but it’s worth it for the size of the ‘viewfinder’. A mate of mine still has a Phantom which he flies with a full size iPad.
The other thing about the iPad is that you can have other apps on it such as drone scene and weather apps.
They are - but not cheap.
The 8" is only Android 10 (though that’s enough for DJI apps) and 9" Android 12. (Android is up up to v16.)
That said .. my old/second-hand 8" still works a treat.

I hadn’t even considered the screen brightness aspect that I guess now is probably as important as the size.
With the iPhone16e I seem to be spending too much time trying to make out the control icons on the screen when I should be watching the drone.
I think if it were me I’d get the RC2.
Connecting the iPad is still fiddly messing about with cables etc, and it’s a little unwieldy on a mount, where’s the RC 2 is all in one unit and just a case of powering it up.
If you pay for the iPad option, every time you have to connect everything up you’re going to be thinking to yourself ‘I wish I’d got the RC2 instead’.
If you go for the RC2, then I can’t see a situation where every time you use it you’d be thinking ‘I wish I’d gone for the iPad option with all the extra fiddling about with cables, putting the iPad in the mount, and not to mention the extra bulk’.

I’d agree with others that the RC2 is a quick, easy solution. Only issue I’ve found is that it’s tricky to setup live streaming. You need to piggyback your mobile AND plug in a mic for YouTube to accept the stream. Thought about using a tablet to get round both of this issues but then it starts to feel a bit like swings and roundabouts with the controller linked to the tablet…..

And seems there are sometimes refurbs around at little more than the going rate on that auction site, so I might soldier on with the phone until one comes up.
