I am Teo and I have recently been gifted a DJI Air 3 (I know, you want my mate’s name and phone). I had a few trials about an year ago with a DJI 4 PRO but it was short.
now, with the new drone, I found myself more comfortable and more eager to fly.
I have done the A1/A3 certification and lately the A2CofC.
Mostly I will be trying to fly where I can capture scenic landscapes and that brings the SSSI into discussion. I am close to the Abberton Reservoir which is an SSSI area and I was wondering how “illegal” it is to fly in that area without any permission.
Also, what does it mean TOLA/TOL as I am doing my head in, probably something simple.
Thanks and nice to “meet” you all.

And excuse my ignorance, in the most genuine way, can I fly over there ? Respecting the 50m distance from all the persons and holding A1/A2/A3 certs. TA.
Hi there and welcome to GADC, TOAL means Take Off And Land. SSSI areas cover various things, from birds, small mammals etc to grasses, flowers, mosses, rock formations so on and so on… If you get Altitude Angel you can look up what the SSSI is for and if its reasonable to fly there, you can also ring Natural England and discuss a possible flight. This is a link to the SSSI citation for that area. SSSI ABBERTON RESERVOIR
“It is the largest freshwater body in Essex with a water area of about 500 ha, and one of the most important
reservoirs in Britain for wildfowl. About thirty thousand birds visit the reservoir annually including
internationally important members of one species and nationally important members of twelve others.
It is also one of a handful of sites in Britain where Cormorants nest inland in trees.”
No worries, I use Altitude Angel if you find the area you want zoom in, click on the SSSI area and look far right you can click on 'Find out more about this Site of Special Scientific Interest ’ then look right again and view citation.
