Complete newbie, bit scared at the moment! Managed to pick up a second-hand DJI Mini 2 to try out and see how I get on
After getting my Operator ID, I think I’ve spent the last few days trying to work out the rules surrounding flying (SSSIs, Byelaws etc) and understanding where I am allowed to fly. It’s been a bit of an uphill battle, but I think I’m getting there!
Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.
And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
Welcome Dave
Great part of the world you’re in for lack of restrictions - get yourself over to a quiet part of the chase for some decent flying practise. Keep away from the trees and forget about photos/videos for your first outings. Good luck!
Hi, I know the feeling of being scared. I would love to meet up with some one who has the confidence to show me what they can do as I lack confidence with all aspects of flying and what my Air 3 is capable of.
Two rules. Don’t fly indoors because you are impatient like I did.
2. Don’t fly in a public park in Tetbury,Gloucestershire about 1.5m from Charles’s place. You get chased by a couple of armed police. We had a chat !!
