Newbie from Cheadle, Staffordshire

Hey, purchased a DJI Mini 3 a few weeks ago, I’ve sent it up from my house a few times for some practice and now looking to take it out. I’m based in Cheadle (close to Alton Towers) and looking for some nice spots to take it to grab some scenic images. A few friends have recommended Croxden Abbey, but if anyone else local has some good hotspots then let me know!

Thanks :pray:t3:

Croxden Abbey is an English Heritage site and they have a drone policy - Drone filming | English Heritage

It may be better for early flights to head up towards the Moorlands for open space; there’s a cracking view from here Google Maps - there used to be an army live firing range to the NW of that spot but I don’t think it’s used and doesn’t show on safety maps now.

There’s a wide view from here that I stopped by last week - Google Maps

The Churnet Valley Railway is worth a look too, it’s much more open at the Ipstones end.

Hi, thanks for the response. Yes I did know about the Abbey policy, so I was going to make sure I take off and land on public areas outside the site. Appreciate the other mentions too, I’ll add them to my list. Thanks :pray:t3:

Go to dronescene.co.uk, people often pin good locations on there.

Welcome to Grey Arrows  enjoy your new hobby, trust me you’ll never look back.

Welcome @djmorris

Drone Scene is your friend; locations, restrictions, stuff you need to be aware of, and a question tickboxy thing that will determine whether you are good to fly at any given location. I use a combination of UAV Forecast and Ventusky apps for weather forecasting and predictions, if that’s any use to you.
