My little one who is 7 has been bugging me about drones which I have been “managing” but I feel it’s time to get clued it especially as he has joined scouts and there are other kids talking about it as well.
Any pointers for myself so via a meet up / resources online / chat would be much appreciated.

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

Hi there @KT123 and welcome to the GADC. You have come to the right place for any questions you have.
Depending on your budget, DJI is a great place to start, the Mini series are fantastic. Mini 3 Pro (@Foley and myself both own one of these), and the Mini 4 pro are both highly reccomended, with a flymore kit (recommended), which is the charging hub, extra batteries, spare propellors. Also, a screen remote controller is preferable (to us anyway), rather than connecting a smart phone or tablet, it’s quicker to load, you can still use your phone, and the screen visuals are much better.
