Newbie member learning the hard way - Pontypridd, South Wales

Hello everyone, just an introduction I have recently decided to start a new hobby in the last year and took the plunge on some fpv drones that I thought to buy cheap “just to get me started” :scream: after a 7 inch and a 5 inch misadventure as struggling to set up in beta flight, I bought a DJI neo with the fly more kit and goggles which was awesome but with the motion controller too easy too fly, bought the rc3 £90, but didn’t realise range was limited unless I buy the fpv controller :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:, after getting fed up with the poor wind resistance and the short flight times i bought a mini 3 which on its first flight as it was all me on the sticks after being babied by the neo motion, got stuck up a tree, got it down but snapped a leg on landing “as partner failed to catch it ” luckily DJI care replaced but it’s been too rainy/windy since to fly. I know have four drone babies neo, mini 3 and a 7 inch and a five inch. I’m hoping build up confidence by flying in open areas at a slow pace with the mini 3. Thanks for reading my newbie woes :victory_hand:

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.

There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.

Welcome once again!

Added to the topic title .. it encourages those more local to you to pop in and say Hi! :+1:

Yeah only way the hobby grows, from a singular activity to a group one, not sure of the publics reaction to see more than one drone in action, people I have met tend to be curious, but it’s not exactly cheap which could be a barrier to many, especially in this day and age

Meetups never have any issues. Half a dozen pilots aren’t going to be pestered/challenged by a lone annoyance.

Hi @Jonnyfav - welcome to GADC :waving_hand:t2:

With regard to the range, have you installed the HAM file on your goggles?

This will greatly improve the range and it doesn’t impact / effect the warranty or Care Refresh.

Whilst Mads is using the HAM on the Avata 2, it works on all DJI quads that connect to the Googles 3 & N3

Thanks i saw this video but he had an avata and didn’t think it applied to the neo, will look into this as the range is piss poor
