I bought my DJI mini about a month ago passed the test so I can fly it.
Where I live was outside Bournemouth Airport exclusion zone area.
The exclusion zone area I cant fly in has been greatly increased by the CAA I imagine which now includes all of Bournemouth seafront and where I live.
I wonder if the zones are enlarged the more people who register as being a drone owner operator in an area?
What are you using to check?
Look at Where can I fly my drone in the UK? - Seatown - Beaches and Seaside Resorts in South West
Created by this site and has all of the places you can fly.
Bournemouth airport in top right, seafront is ok but thereās a temp restriction, probably gliders or something. Shouldnāt have any issues though once that restriction is lifted
Also
Blockquote A zone with the same dimensions as the Aerodrome Traffic Zone: A 2 or 2.5 nautical mile radius ācylinderā around the aerodrome, extending 2000 ft above ground level, centred on the longest runway.
Runway Protection Zones: A rectangle extending 5Km from the threshold of each runway away from the aerodrome, along the extended runway centreline, and 500m either side - also to a height of 2000 ft above ground level.
Additional Zones: In the case where a line that is drawn 1Km beyond the boundary of an aerodrome extends beyond the Aerodrome traffic zone, and so would not be protected by it, the flight restriction zone will include a ābumpā (the airfield boundary + 1KM) to protect this part of the aerodrome.
Hope that helps
Are you referring to the larger rectangular area in the photo below?
If so, that isnāt a āyou can only fly if you have permission from air traffic controlā area - that only applies to the circular area around the airport and the extensions at the end of runways.
As per the NATS Drone Assist app, there is a higher likelihood of seeing aircraft in the area so you should be extremely vigilant.
Iām using an app called drone assist. I guess the CAA extend zones due to hair Traffic etc.
Thanks for your fast reply
I looked at that then read the restrictions and it seemed that it said from the ground upwards so I presume that the large box meant no flying.
I understand the airport shape but the large rectangle did have me flummoxed
Nats app is good, but the admin of the site will grill you for not using theirs
I use a combination of NATS and drone scene and googling local bye always etc, as rusty barnet says, the surrounding area is precautionary normally, but if youāre flying in VLOS and below 120m you shouldnāt have any issues.
But Drone Scene is definitely easier to understand and use!
Iāll take a look at drone scene thank you
Which zone where?
As per the map @its.steves.shots has posted, the only permanent restriction is the Bournemouth Airport FRZ, which hasnāt changed.
Check out the Drone Scene map for the area ā¦
The minute I posted my reply I thought to myself āIām going to get it in the neck for not suggesting Drone Sceneāā¦
Thanks for your help.
You guys really know your stuff Iām still learning
No better advert than members who use it and sell its praises
We thank you
Itās a big learning curve and this site is great,
With the Mini you wonāt be too restricted anyway, but youāll see most on here have done the CofC qualification anyway just to gain a greater knowledge.
Enjoy flying, was down in Dorset last weekend to visit family where I grew up, beautiful part of the UK and youāve got plenty of amazing areas to fly nearby!
Nats is too red tape for my liking, does make it look like you canāt fly anywhere. Plus with DroneScene you get the recommendations from where other people have flown and the What3words location which makes it so much easier.
Could not praise it enough!!
Iām working in Dagenham and Dartford at the moment so Iāve been having a bit of practice in the hotel car park in Dartford.
Iāve got a week off next week so Iām going to take the drone out and perfect flying it slowlyā¦
I did not realise there is a where can I fly my Drone on this platform so I shall have a look
