Personally I think its shit, but most ā€˜rules’ around our chosen pastime are.

Rules are generally born out of experience But I agree I’ve never liked being told what to do!

PS I think all traffic lights should be removed because they slow me down :joy:

I don’t have many rules at home (I have to impose too many at work) but my biggest bug bear is people who don’t take off their shoes when they come in the house (yup its the littlest things that annoy the most)

That is definitely not correct, they have to return your items at the end of the cruise, as it is your personal property.

It’s gonna be interesting for me as i will go off ship with nothing (later this year), and come back onboard with an Evo 2 (hopefully) as a gift, sealed in its box !.
Now there is an interesting argument !.

Whilst I agree that the safety of the ship and passengers is paramount, and the captain is the law in such matters, I was objecting to them using the excuse that local flying laws may be broken in the countries/islands visited. in order to confiscate the drone.
I would expect to be able to retrieve my own property every time I disembarked and return it to a secure lock up on return to the ship.
To possibly permanently confiscate a drone is theft in my view. It’s not an illegal weapon such as a sword or gun, or substance, it’s a camera, albeit with propellors.

Totally agree, if you go ashore from a cruise ship and break the law the cruise line are not held responsible for your actions. So how can they use the excuse that ā€œlocal flying laws may be broken in the countries/islands visitedā€, to ban passengers taking their drones on board the ship. By all means securly store the drones and only allow the owners to pick them up if they wish as they leave the ship… Simples.

Nah that would be common sense !!!  :+1:

I dont think they say that do they?

more probably someone has had a drone that they looked after and have given it back at port they have
gone ashore and flown it over said ship
in fact its probably gone along these lines
1.ok to take drones aboard some idiot taking of from the deck either crashing or loosing it and trying to claim off ship
2. banned to take of from ship some idiot has ignored that
3.banned to have possession on ship so held by ship until they disembark somewhere and then said idiot have taken off from shore and flown over ship or people coming off ship or into cabin portholes
4.ship just said lets just ban them altogether

Fred Olsen’s exact wording:

Drones & Flying Objects

Drones and any other types of flying objects regardless of size or propulsion system.

If any item is confiscated and deemed that it can be lawfully returned, the item will be given back at the end of the cruise. Any illegal items will be confiscated and the appropriate authorities advised

Just tell them its a new type of defibrillator cos you have a heart condition

Maybe they are ultra conscious of not hacking off the locals to the extent that the Cruise liner becomes an unwelcome visitor Just a thought
