Poor quality on Mini Pro 4 video and photo

Hello All

This is my first post to this forum and I appear to be the only one to have this issue. But I had my first Mini Pro 4 replaced by DJI under warranty, I received the replacement today only to find it has the same problem.

The image breaks and pixelates regardless of the exposure settings that I use. I am using a SanDisk 128gb Extreme, and I have tried a SanDisk Ultra. I have transferred the files to a very fast drive to view them, and I have disabled caching on the RC-2, as you can see the drone and controller are never more than about 10 metres apart.

I have contacted DJI support again and they have suggested that I re-apply the firmware, which was already up to date.

Either I am very unlucky to receive 2 faulty drones or I am doing something very wrong. I will be glad to hear any comments or advice.

I have posted sample videos on my GoogleDrive and shared it below;

Many thanks
Jerry

Hi @JerryDrone, it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

Why H.265

Straight out of the box. Why would DJI supply it with problematic default settings?

Wayne does have a point. The H.265 codec is HEVC, which is the same quality, but significantly higher compression. Most PCs and laptops made in the last few years will play this, but anything older will stutter. I.e. from a Intel CPU point of view, only 6th gen onwards supports HEVC.

That said, it still doesn’t explain why your Mini 4 Pro video is opting for H.265/HEVC. Perhaps things have changed between Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro. As my my Mini 3 Pro’s video is encoded using H.264, which is less compressed (but does take up more space).

Perhaps someone else with a Mini 4 Pro can check to see if it’s the same for them?

Apparently, it supports both.

Take it off D-Log M ?

The mini 3 Pro does as well but you have to select it

I don’t play with settings much. Just send it.

Me too the defaults are fine

Great, as soon as the weather improves I’ll try H264.

Many thanks

Set all to default and try 4k 25fps

Also are the video files from the drone sd card in a card reader to pc

I’m wondering if the Mini 4 Pro’s default is now H.265, since Jerry has had 2 of them, both with the same issue. Notwithstanding, H.265 is replacing the ancient H.264 everywhere else. The problem with that of course is many folk don’t have the hardware to play them (smoothly).

Not sure what else you have to play the files on but they played perfect in my iPhone (as well as MacBook)

Not so on my IPad Pro 2023. Getting the same issues as JerryDrone

Hmm. Not so sure it is a codec issue, as it’s glitching on my PC, which supports HEVC and has a RTX 3090. Lots of stuttering and the occassional artifacting (and don’t you dare blame Windows  )

I’ve tested the small 464MB file and the 1347MB file and get the same as Jerry is describing.

0:44 of the larger file …

Plus, lots of jerks, glitches and tearing. Maybe I see it because I have a larger screen.

@JerryDrone - it’s not codec, as I suggested earlier. Can you provide a link to the Micro SD card you have bought?

What are you thinking, fake card?

Not necesarily fake, just below necessary write speed. Process of elimination and all that.

I would always recommend this card when writing 4K 30 FPS or above. And for the price, it’s a no brainer. That said, it was cheaper a couple of weeks ago :grimacing:

I think my concern there would be the legitimacy of the card, especially if purchased from an Amazon reseller, rather than Amazon direct :see_no_evil:
