Sorry you have lost me! Do I not just unscrew one ad screw on the new? What is the compound for and where does it go?
See the two pics above - the blue stuff on the old one is the thermal compound.
It ensures the heat is efficiently conducted away from the electrical components that get rather hot.
I’ve marked three of the blobs in this pic.
And the inside against which it has to be a secure fit with the compound.

All beginning to make sense - nothing is simple any more! Beginning to think that removing the existing skid and making two to my own specs is the best bet.
Chances are you’ll need to take the base-plate off to get the remaining one off.
So, you’ll need some thermal compound to replace it and maintain the conductivity of heat.
But, yes, that is a possibility I guess.
