not sure what your plan is - but before attempting flying - you should look at loading presets relevant for your setup. For ELRS - you need to load a preset that needs to match your frequency as set on the radio (got to the preset tabs and just search for elrs and you will see them).
You may also have one in there for your frame - or you can load some default ones.
Also need to make sure the motors are all set properly (motor order and directions) or it will not end well
After snapping off a motor wire soldering joint I’ve managed to get that sod back on. I’m just stuck on these final steps
Once I plug my drone in to the pc via usb and connect my battery what do I need to check now?
Also I can’t seem to get the motors spinning other than setting them ( all set facing in or outwards can’t remember) and they correspond to 1-4.
I see these presets in the tab on the left; am I right to think these are like tuning for a car that we preload to the FC? If so, do I need to select a 5" Volador frame (weighs about 600g, it’s an absolute beast.)
Keeps telling me arming disabled and I have no idea how to get around this?
Also when I follow the advice about UART 6 I click it under the configuration column and/or serial Rx then click save and reboot, I come back to the ports tab and it’s not saved, does it even time.
it does not save it as it is not a ‘valid’ config - a uart can only be one thing - it cannot have serial and the other one active. your uart 6 should only have the serial turned on, It should solve your arming issue once set.
For the preset - kind of - there are literally thousands of configs options in BF so to simplify we have presets that group them nicely depending on what we want to do.
The ELRS presets are to set up the FC so it understands among other things how often it can expect an input from the radio
Frame presets usually takes care of noise filtering (allowing for better flight characteristics)
If you find a preset fopr your specific frame - pick it – if not pick one of the Supafly for your size quad - it should fly reasonably well with the correct preset.
If you are having ‘big issues’ with the correct preset - it is very likely a build/config issue (hardware vibration,…)
So, I think after flashing the ESC, clicking a few areas on beta flight that I’d missed, the quad actually spins all four motors via the switch, a beautiful sight!
However, I was told about Liftoff simulator which I downloaded and omg, what have I gotten myself into? Is it really as difficult to fly as this simulator?
Apart from that, thanks all for your patience and help getting me to the point of (being able to switch it on)
I’ll upload a photo after I’ve totaled it first flight.
Depending on your age and aptitude, expect to spend several hours getting the basics down. I was literally on the verge of giving up on it when it finally clicked for me.
If you’ve not done any flying at all - simulator or real life - I think the DRL Simulator beginner tutorial is pretty good at slowly introducing you to the basic functions with “training wheels” on. I know people say you may as well start learning “full acro”, but if you’re coming from absolutely nothing then I think there is merit in having a bit of a guided introduction, otherwise it just feels like trying to balance a tennis ball on a football (and is just as frustrating).
