RAF Upwood - Added to FPV in East of England

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission requirements unknown.

Parking on site is not restricted. Just drive on in. But they are now starting some work on the site so have placed barriers up. at present 02-09-24 you can drive partway in.
park at the marker then walk to which ever is you preferred TAOL spot ( extra info added by @stevesb

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 12/01/2020. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

Get in quick though as it is ear marked for demolition soon.

The site appears to be open during working hours M-F, as there are firms working on site. At w/ends paintballers use it, and the gates can get locked when they finish for the day. I almost got locked in a few years ago!

Jay @Proteous we’v had a request from Karl @notveryprettyboy to change the category of this location from Castles and Fortifications, over to the new FPV category.

Any objections?

Yes this site is earmarked for a large housing estate also within a designated Glider club.

No objections here. Is it even still standing?

Yeah there are still buildings left

Now being developed into a housing estate.

I want to fly here @Proteous, but there are no parking or take off and landing markers. Would you be able to add some to the map please?

Those plans are on hold

You really dont need them. Parking is abundant and the entire site is a TOAL area. You have full access with zero limitations.

4.5yrs after the original post - and it’s still standing. :grinning:

I visited July 2024, still lots of rumours that this place will be developed ‘this year’ …but it’s yet to happen. Superbly fun place for a rip. :sunglasses:

Hi @Matty110, it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:
