Rannoch Moor

Little trip up to Rannoch at the weekend… some glorious weather for a change.

Would have been nice to get a train on the viaduct, but first due was after 1pm.

Where is the viaduct? might have to visit.

It’s just a few hundred yards north of Rannoch Station - you can see it there on the last picture. If you’re driving, it’s about 75 minutes (can be a lot longer if you come upon a logging lorry) from Pitlochry, or there’s a direct train from Queen Street.

There’s actually a second viaduct about a mile to the south. They’re about to start replacing the foundations, which will mean damming the outlet from Garbh Ghaoir and draining the river. That’s going to be quite some engineering… and all done at night.

Was going to do Inverness via Fortwilliam one weekend, will probably drive back through Aviemore and stop in.

Really pleased that the owners of the hotel liked the pics and used one for their social media.

Had a little trip back to Rannoch this weekend and the hotel has been (rightly) featured in a book of Perthshire’s finest cooking. Had a flick through before dinner and thought “I recognise that picture…”
