Return to home on a DJI Mavic Air 2

Hi all. Newbie here.
I took my mavic air 2 on its first flight as the current owner.
I let it fly a few hundred feet horizontal. Then pressed the RTH button . The drone flew up really high and came back from a height.
Is this a safety thing to avoid any collisions.
Cheers Rob

As to the RTH - yes, that’s normal to ensure it goes above the usual height of obstacles.

You can change the height it climbs to in the app.

Welcome to the forum Rob.

There is a setting for Auto RTH Altitude in the app under “Safety”. The drone will ascend to this altitude, navigate back so it is above the RTH point and then descend.
