RTF Competition July 3rd to 16th - UGLY BUILDINGS - Winners Announced

I mean, I wouldn’t live there… but I sort of like it. Not sure it overly blends in with that windmill though

Not found a larger one yet and most seach results (related to the topic) have me top or second etc.

How are we supposed to vote in this though, I’m torn. Best picture, because it’s a good picture, but not an ugly building (imo) or by what is just a vomit inducing building. Since we can vote for anything, I guess it don’t really matter! I’ll vote for it either way. It’s a decent enough composed image. :man_shrugging: :upside_down_face:

and that was the whole tongue in cheek point of my comment  its going to be such an odd subject to vote on

I think I now know what they based the Nostromo off in Alien.

Bear in mind it’s the Uglies awards and vote for whatever.you rate 1st in your own opinion. Luckily we’re not asked to explain why we voted, if we did that would be the only thread I can imagine would beat the volume of VLOS posts :joy:

Nothing will ever beat the volume of furious typing in drone rules threads.

Most fun I’d had on a forum in years.

Early hours of this morning I saw there were 160 unread posts, I moved on and now it’s gone, wish I’d read the last few of them :joy:

  • BT building in Warrington, and adjoined Warrington Automated Telephone Exchange, Barbauld St, Warrington.
  • Mini 2 with CPL filter
  • 12/07/22 18:50
  • Built in 1955 as a telecoms building, it’s had new concrete cladding put on since then, but it’s still a pretty darn ugly building and visible from quite a distance.

  • Warrington bus depot, Wilderspool Causeway, Warrington
  • Mini 2 with a CPL filter
  • 12/07/22 19:00
  • Somewhat redeemed by the attractive livery of the buses that perpetually surround it, the depot is well past its prime as a building with what appears to be asbestos still used in the roofing. The building is, as the name suggests, the main depot of Warrington’s Own Buses, the municipal bus company.

So much choice in Birmingham City Centre!!!

  • Building: The Selfridges Building, Birmingham
  • Drone:M3P
  • Taken: 18:40 today
  • Recently been under cover and not long been restored to it’s full ugly glory. No doubt having all of it’s silver discs and blue behind cleaned in preparation of the Commonwealth Games which arrives to Birmingham in a matter of days. One of the included desktop backgrounds in Windows 7 was this building.

There seems to be a potential problem with voting. Ugliest building or best picture?

Why don’t we have two polls - one for ugly, one for pretty picture? The Chall Com minions will whinge about the extra work of course but seeing that they are soon away to wherever there meagre wages will take them on holiday we might as well get the maximum work out of them before they go.

That wouldn’t be too bad ifcthat walk way wasn’t sticking out of it.

I wondered when the Bull ring would appear. :joy: i quite like it but your chosen angle is spot on! Would have gone myself but the City was a total pain to drive around last time I was there recently. Has it improved?

Yes I went for a bad angle on purpose then the Challenges Committee announced a best picture category too. Grr. Although I won’t be going back into the City Centre now until the Commonwealth Games are done, Security has really been upped and twice I was asked to stop what I was doing. So by the time I got to Selfridges I was in a get up, get shot and get out of here type of mood.

As for the roads, don’t be daft. I have to go in with Waze on in order to know which way to go as so many roads are closed or turned into one way systems, and it seems to change weekly.

 Yeh. Me too. I was using Google maps and my car satnav, and they both had me going around in circles! Think I’ll take the train next time. Mind you since Stafford opened its Nandos I haven’t felt the need. :joy: :joy:

So this is my entry into the “Ugly Buildings” catagory…

  • Marlbourough House, Craigavon, Northern Ireland
  • Taken 13/07/2022 @ 10:07AM
  • DJI Mini2 with ND4 (not that it matters for stills, but it was still on the lens), only cropped slightly.
  • Built in the 1970’s to house various offices of the Civil Service for the local area.

I think that’s not an ugly building. I can imagine from some viewpoints it is but that photo looks OK to me.

  • The Tower Block at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, Gloucester.
  • Taken 13/07/2022 @ 13:04
  • DJI Mavic 2 Pro

Completed in 1975, the Tower Block at GRH is currently tied for the position of ugliest building in Gloucestershire. The other option is Eagle Tower, in Cheltenham.
As you can see from the image, the hospital is undergoing some major refurbishment. But they’re still keeping the tower.

Apologies that the image is blurry… If I focused the camera, then I’d have lost the lens! The building is that ugly!
(Or, my wife was in the VERY hot car, and I had <5 mins left on my battery to get the shot. Whichever you think is the actual truth.)
