Hopefully ( weather permitting) I’ll put in an entry this round. Ain’t felt like doing any flying this past few weeks after losing our mutt :wink:

THIS IS MY ENTRY

Location : North Queensferry, Fife
Time & Date : 10/12/2024 17:05
Aircraft : DJI Mini 3

Managed to capture an Azuma going past the station. Annoyingly I have what might be a nicer pic of the bridge head on with the NQ station building, but the poor little building isnt much to look at  A bit like me.

THIS IS MY ENTRY

  • Langstone Bridge, Havant
  • 11.20 a.m 11th December 2024
  • DJI Mavic Air
  • The image shows the remnants of the wooden trestle bridge that carried the Hayling Billy branch line that ran from Havant on the mainland to the sea front on Hayling Island. The line closed in 1963 nearly a century after it first opened, the cost of maintaining and ultimately replacing the bridge proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the line.

The photo below published in the Portsmouth News shows the bridge as it was complete with Hayling Billy Steam Train.

I’ll have to give this one a miss, storms, wind, more storms. Perhaps next time. Well done to anyone submitting an entry!

Not the best time of year for blue skies and bright sunlight. Hence we had just a trio of entries to pick from. Cast your vote before 22:00 on Monday December 23rd (Christmas Eve Eve) and await the results

@group-challenges

Disappointed that I couldn’t get out for this one, the only time we had a day or two of decent weather was when I was out of the country :disappointed:

Tried to get out this week, but everything conspired against me. Managed one very local flight this week to get my “tree” pic, the other day. Hopefully we get some better flying weather soon.:wink:

Had this on me radar, as well the other challenge for trees. In between the shite weather and the shite weather it turned into a no can do for this round, and me subject was just up road . Might av a go at Xmas lights…shite weather permitting:rofl:

And we have a result!

In third place is Peter - @Frimleyphotography - who popped down to Hayling and captured the remains of the bridge for the old Hayling Billy line with the gap in the middle of the piers where the swing bridge used to be.

Our second-place winner, Paul—@ParmoPaul—chose a nighttime shoot to capture a diesel-electric hybrid Azuma train heading south from North Queenferry station to cross over the Firth of Forth on the world-famous Forth bridge.

Which means that our first place and the winner’s laurels go to regular entrant Richard - @Kirky - with his picture of the Hurstbourne Viaduct near Whitchurch, Hampshire with the Vitacress Salads factory half hidden in the background.

The marks on the viaduct are not the result of taggers or vandals as it may appear at first glance; according to the Souther Railway E-Mail Group:

There are extensive mineral deposits on the lower parts of the arch soffits and spandrels, caused by water filtering out through the structure. This has probably been caused by a problem with the viaduct’s drainage system. The lack of deposits higher up, suggests that the inner faces of the structure have been waterproofed where it has been possible to excavate from track level.

Well done to our three winners, and congratulations to our first-placed competitor, Richard.

It looks as though the weather has defeated those who would also like to have taken part; you have your chance for the round that ends on January 4th, the timely and somewhat predictable Xmas Lights

Thank you for the votes peeps, a bit confused as I did cast a vote myself on @Frimleyphotography Peters picture but it’s not there  very sorry about that but did vote,

Good that has been noted, I’ve seen many bridges where the water etc seems to soak through the structure, adds a nice bit of character to that viaduct,
Once again thank you.
