RTF Drone Photo Competition - April 27th to May 10th - Derelict - Winners Announced

The people have spoken and the majority have opted for Gothic / Derelict / Steps and Stairs as the subject for this round of RTF. Will anyone produce a picture of a derelict gothic building with a flight of external stairs?

So that’s the subject sorted, here are your eagerly awaited rules:

RULES

The requirement is to submit a still image created using a drone to illustrate the subject of the competition. This round will run from 00:01 Sunday 27th of April until 23:00 Saturday, May 10th; the subject is Derelict
The image must be captured during the time that the competition is open. It is a Reason To Fly competition so please show that the image is created by a flying camera!

Editing is confined to colour and exposure adjustments and crop only. There must be no removal or pasting of an object.

Please post only one image, the image you wish to be judged, in this thread.

Images must be posted with the following information as a minimum:

In Capitals as the first line of your post:

THIS IS MY ENTRY

If this is not done at the time of posting the picture will be ignored. Should it be necessary to change your picture then delete the previous picture and add “This is my entry” - as above - as the first line of your new post. If in any doubt contact the Challenges Committee
(@Challenges_Committee)

Further Information is required

  • Location
  • Time and date
  • Aircraft/camera used
  • Feel free to add any further information that you think will be of interest

Voting

The members of GADC will judge images. They may vote for any number of pictures through an anonymous poll open for two days after the closing date for competition entries.

Voting in the poll is open to all GADC members, whether they have entered the competition or not.

The judges may request the original media in case of a dispute.

Schedule

The competition subject will be announced every second Saturday around 22:30. The subject will be chosen by a poll of GADC members selecting from three that have been picked at random from the subject list. You may make additions to the list at any time.

The competition will run from Sunday 00.01 to Saturday 23.00 fourteen days later. Voting by poll will be open for a further two days until Monday 22:00

The winner, second and third-placed competitors will be announced shortly after the vote is closed

Have Fun! Be Safe!

All flights are the sole responsibility of the individual conducting them. Each competitor must abide by the drone code and adhere to the limitations and restrictions imposed upon them by aviation law, the aircraft being used and the qualifications they hold. Check under your seat for tonight’s winning ticket. If a flight is undertaken in a restricted zone proof of permission having been granted is required.

Just for the sake of accuracy, are you distinguishing between derelict and (partially) ruined? As in, would a partially fallen down mill with vegetation growing through it be too derelict for the purposes of this challenge?

Bear in mind that the subject was chosen randomly from a pool of suggestions from GADC members who will also be your judges. We don’t have too much involvement apart from providing the thread for the challenge to be held in.

We doubt whether your fellow competitors (and soon to be your judges) are too bothered by a fine division between partially ruined and derelict, such a division would be fairly subjective anyway. At the end of the day all that any of us are concerned with is a great looking image of a subject broadly in line with the spirit of the competition.

Don’t overthink things!

Below is the definition of derelict from the Collins English Dictionary,

derelict in British English

(ˈdɛrɪlɪkt IPA Pronunciation Guide )

adjective

deserted or abandoned, as by an owner, occupant, etc

falling into ruins; neglected; dilapidated

neglectful of duty or obligation; remiss

> noun

a person abandoned or neglected by society; a social outcast or vagrant

property deserted or abandoned by an owner, occupant, etc

a vessel abandoned at sea

a person who is neglectful of duty or obligation

Word origin: C17: from Latin dērelictus forsaken, from dērelinquere to abandon, from de- + relinquere to leave

Derby Hippodrome Theatre
Green Lane Derby
Taken today 1st May at 11:13

Built in 1914 as a variety theatre, it was converted into a cinema in1930. Reopening as a live theatre again in 1950 before finally closing as a theatre venue in 1959. Opening yet again as a bingo hall in 1962, remaining as such until it finally closed in 2007. Since then it has been partly demolished and various fires in the intervening years have seen it decay to its present sorry state.

CBS Abbey Primary School
Abbey Yard, Newry, Co.Down
DJI Mini 4 Pro
Taken today at 0625

This was the local Christian Brothers Schools Primary School for boys. It was abandoned when a new purpose built school was constructed and the boys Abbey Primary was merged with the girls St. Clares Convent School.
Unfortunately it is rapidly deteriorating and vandalism is rife inside.
