Wow, I drove past there today, but earlier. As I normally live in London, a pleasing coincidence.

The Candlestick Chimney is a tall brick chimney built in the 1840s as part of Wellington Colliery’s ventilation system, now a landmark that recalls the town’s coal mining heritage.
Did you stop for sausages?
We have a friend who lives in Pembroke, every time he comes up this way stocks up his freezer, about £100 quids worth, was originally from Pendle.
Alas not, as my first visit to the area. But I am returning, so will look out.

I’m going to have to sit this one out. The usual excuses – time and stormy weather have conspired against me. I had a chimney in mind, but nothing as impressive as the fantastic photos here! Have a rainbow instead. ![]()

Smitham Chimney was built in 1867 by Cornish engineers and is the last surviving lead-smelting chimney on Mendip. Standing 70ft high, its stone and brick tower once carried poisonous fumes from the furnaces below. The works only lasted about eight years, and when they closed, every building was knocked down except this one. It came close to demolition in the 1970s but was saved and restored, and it’s now Grade II listed. Today it rises quietly from the woodland beside a still pond, catching the first light of the rising sun.
I am beginning to think that these challenges are a bit like playing poker as I might have peaked too early on this one haha - some cracking entries being posted now thats for sure.
Looking fwd to voting
I know what you mean, I had posted a week ago but had missed what I wanted to say in the description, so felt the need to amend and relist ![]()
Time to vote for the three images you like best. You have until 22:00 on Monday 12th to do so!
Stacks of great images!
The three you consider the best are this one which came third and is from @Buzz9 who photographed the Porth Wen Brickworks. It’s an abandoned brickworks located on the coast of Porth Wen (White Bay) in Anglesey. It once made silica bricks used to line furnaces for steel production
Second is @Marton with a picture of the Candlestick Chimney in Whitehaven, a local landmark and reminder of the area’s mining heritage
First place goes to @Nikonitis - Patrick - with his image of Wiltshire’s Crofton Pumping Station on a misty morning at the end of September .
It looks like an interesting site to visit for a solo or a family day out!
As always - congratulations to our winners and thanks to all who entered. Maybe some of the non-entering voters would like to join in the current RTF - Mills
Well done all, great entries ![]()
Congrats to the winner and all the rest too as quite a great set of photos.
Congratulations, well deserved.
A big thank you to everyone who thought my effort merited recognition!
