RTF February 16th to March 1st - Roads - Winners Announced

The people have voted. You are requested to furnish an image of Roads by 23:00 on Saturday March 1st if you wish to compete against your fellow GADC members in this round of RTF.

As always there are rules. A few people read them. A few follow them. They are below for your reading pleasure, if you will …

RULES

The requirement is to submit a still image created using a drone to illustrate the subject of the competition. This round will run from 00:01 Sunday 16th of February until 23:00 Saturday, March 1st; the subject is Roads

The image must be captured during the time that the competition is open. It is a Reason To Fly competition so please show that the image is created by a flying camera!

Editing is confined to colour and exposure adjustments and crop only. There must be no removal or pasting of an object.

Please post only one image, the image you wish to be judged, in this thread.

Images must be posted with the following information as a minimum:

In Capitals as the first line of your post:

THIS IS MY ENTRY

If this is not done at the time of posting the picture will be ignored. Should it be necessary to change your picture then delete the previous picture and add “This is my entry” - as above - as the first line of your new post. If in any doubt contact the Challenges Committee
(@Challenges_Committee)

Further Information is required

  • Location
  • Time and date
  • Aircraft/camera used
  • Feel free to add any further information that you think will be of interest

Voting

The members of GADC will judge images. They may vote for any number of pictures through an anonymous poll open for two days after the closing date for competition entries.

Voting in the poll is open to all GADC members, whether they have entered the competition or not.

You may vote for one, all, some or none of the entries.

The judges may request the original media in case of a dispute.

Schedule

The competition subject will be announced every second Saturday around 22:30. The subject will be chosen by a poll of GADC members selecting from three that have been picked at random from the subject list. You may make additions to the list at any time.

The competition will run from Sunday 00.01 to Saturday 23.00 fourteen days later. Voting by poll will be open for a further two days until Monday 22:00

The winner, second and third-placed competitors will be announced shortly after the vote is closed

Have Fun! Be Safe!

All flights are the sole responsibility of the individual conducting them. Each competitor must abide by the drone code and adhere to the limitations and restrictions imposed upon them by aviation law, the aircraft being used and the qualifications they hold. Don’t go looking for a hidden message, there isn’t one. If a flight is undertaken in a restricted zone proof of permission having been granted is required.

Yes.

I had flown here before back in January and realised it was a good choice for this challenge.

I had to park in a different place this time and didn’t see the enormous tree… Well you can guess what happened.

The Neo is fine again after I pushed the gimbal back into position and retrieved the battery from the field. The fence around the field meant I had could not get my hand to the battery and had to resort to using a stick to pull it towards me.

The polarising filter I had been using was nowhere to be found.

This photo was taken after I got the Neo back in the air again…

Shouldn’t the firing squad be in front of the committee member? Rather than behind?

Though we now know why there was a vacancy for @Kirky to join :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It’s more fun our way. Tie him to the post, brandish the rifles then blindfold him. And then we creep very quietly away down the pub. We are not cruel people, just harsh but fair. We hate everyone. Equally.

  • Additional info - “Postwick” has the very Norfolk pronunciation of “Possik”, in a similar vein to “Costessey” being “Cossey” and “Happisburgh” being “Haysborough”

  • Apologies for many of my images being located in the South Downs, this is my favorite location for my regular Monday cycle ride which also coincidentally provides drone flying opportunities when the weather permits. In this instance I grabbed a short opportunity between two weather systems, the wind was quite gusty but the Mavic Air seemed more than able to handle the conditions, I am not so sure my Mini 3 would have been as happy! The masts that can just be seen on the hill in the distance on the left of the image are what is left of HMS Mercury, this was where the Royal Navy Signals school was re-established after its original location in Portsmouth Dockyard was destroyed by the Luftwaffe in 1941.

I spent many a happy hour at HMS Mercury learning - among other things - ship manoeuvring, flashing light morse, signal flags, tactical voice comms and typing!

To be fair, most of the happiness came from the runs ashore in Pompey and the messy burgers outside HMS Nelson…

Difficult to do imagine all the activity that must have going on there, now that all remains are a few masts and the Sustainability Centre!

Stwlan Dam holds back the head reservoir for the first of the four pumped storage hydroelectric generators in the UK, the 350MW Ffestiniog power station which opened in 1963. Ffestiniog Power Station - Wikipedia

Not obvious from the image is how steep the road is - regularly classed in the top 10 hardest cycling climbs in the UK, the steepest 100m is approaching 20%!

That road sounds like a killer, great image, it takes a moment to assimilate what you are looking at!

Thanks. From the lakeside cafe, it was 1000 feet of climb in 2 miles. Took about an hour and a half walking for me (with the occasional “photo stop” - an excuse to catch my breath) Absolutely worth it…even if I can barely walk this morning!

Top down wide pano & crop, not what I was hoping for but thought id chuck it in to get the numbers up at least,
Looks more like a track going through a farmers field but is actually a road none the less, wanted to have another crack elsewhere but not sure if I can achieve that before the weekend now.

Location showing it’s a road on Google below :+1:

Junction 15 of the M40, it seems to be called Longbridge Island though as far as I know there’s no local signage labelling it as such. The smaller viaduct on the left carries the A46 towards Coventry. Buildings topright are Warwick.

Bonus image (NOT my entry) with the A46 roundabout out of frame on the left.
