Scottish Meet - 4th August at Loch Lomond and The Trossachs

@group-scotland

We already know @callum and @Drumsagard along with myself are up for a meet somewhere, any other Scottish members up for one?
Central belt somewhere would be ideal for most of us I would think? Any suggestions for a location? Midweek or weekend? I know John will be tied up with weddings most fridays and saturdays.
And I don’t think I need to say it would of course it is open to ALL forum members

Excellent idea. Definitely up for this - I have met up with a couple of folk from the group before.

Sounds wise to minimise travel, at least for a first meeting.

Any suggestions for a location?

When I just want to test things out, there are a couple of places I go to near me in Edinburgh - the Braid Hills and the Pentland Hills.

These are the places I have flown in the Embra area:

For the whole central belt:

My guess is that the object/area to film is not as important as:
• an obvious landmark/cafe/pub to assemble
• good parking
• reasonable seclusion - few “innocent bystanders”
• friendly cafe/pub (with seats) for post-mortem
• a guarantee of good weather and a 360 minute “golden hour” :grinning:

Midweek or weekend?

I’m retired, so there’s very little difference! Happy with either.

Yeah I would be up for that. Evenings or weekends are good for me due to not being retired

Central locations could include
Kelpies
Clackmannan/Aloa towers
Wallace Monument

Not Scotland then.

I can travel just about anywhere so any location is fine for me. Weekends are usually best for me as I travel all over scotland for work, meaning I never quite know when I’m going to be home midweek. John @Drumsagard I wouldn’t think you’d have many weddings on a sunday?

Yes , would like a central scotland meet up to

Aka working :frowning:

Yep

Look at the end of facherty’s post, it was a play on that.

Some, but my next Sunday wedding is not till 29th Sept. I’m good for most Sundays unless I’ve a golf comp on.

Fuck the golf mate, it’s shit!!!

Only kidding, I used to play quite a lot too, but in more of a Happy Gilmore kind of way. I can hit the ball quite nicely (most of the time) but I don’t have the mental attitude to ever be any good. I’ve lost a few clubs in the Tay at the North Inch course, a few have been used to remove bark from trees at Strathtay, and one or two have succumbed to the depths of a pond at Murrayshall. I’m too short tempered for the game and don’t like it when the balls don’t play ball!!! The worst was when the group behind started teeing off when we’re on the fairway, waiting for the putters ahead to finish off and stick the flag back in. I don’t think they were expecting me to walk all the way back to the tee after putting the 5 iron back in the bag in exchange for the driver!!!

We’re lucky to get 360 minutes without rain at the moment!!!

So, I think the consensus is for a Sunday? But where would we be without a wee poll eh? You can pick one, two, or all three

  • Midweek (mon-fri)
  • Saturday
  • Sunday

Id be up for it…providing I can work round my shifts.
If Montrose isnt too far for guys to travel…Boddin Point and Elephant Rock is a good site

Count me in for a possible Scottish meet, depends when and if I’m working on that day, as I work nights and where I don;t mind travlling too far… I’ve been thinking recently about a scottish meet so great to see fellow members in scotland have thought the same.

So it seems the consensus is for a Sunday.
So onto location.
The Stirling/Falkirk area is well located with lots of good shooting locations. Edinburgh is the same as has been mentioned above by @facherty . And Montrose has been proposed by @BrianSmith , Montrose is also a nice place that I visit frequently for walks with the wife and kids, and also has St Cyrus and Arbroath within easy reach.
As Facherty posted above, wherever we go needs to have:
• an obvious landmark/cafe/pub to assemble
• good parking
• reasonable seclusion - few “innocent bystanders”
• friendly cafe/pub (with seats) for post-mortem

I’ve missed out the last requirement for the obvious reason that we live in Scotland
Any other location suggestions?

Hi Guys, I live in Edinburgh so would be interested in a meet up, even just to chat about our adventures if the weather is bad. I prefer midweek as I’m retired with grandkids.
I usually fly in Argyll, Edinburgh outskirts or Largs area.
Maybe there could be a list of Scottish flyers who are also social minded!

I’m coming up to the Edinburgh area late July / early August. I’ll keep watching this thread with interest ( born in Musselburgh, but live in Derby, East Midlands ) :+1::+1:
