Sell Mini 2 and wait for Mini 3 or keep mini 2

That’s my point why would they bring out a drone with the specs of a air2 call it mini 3 weighing under 249g cheaper than the air2 and cheaper to buy doesn’t make sense

There aren’t even any real rumours about a Mini 3 yet, never mind a launch date

Unpack and fly the Mini 2

The only thing that would really make me upgrade my mini 2 is active tracking. And I’m holding baited breath that the SDK will get released and something like litchi will be able to do it. Obstacle avoidance is just a nice to have and if you’re a semi decent pilot you really don’t need it.

Definitely fly it, there’s always going to be something better coming soon :upside_down_face:

Bought the MINI, (which I hardly flew much at all) when it first came out, should have waited for the Mini 2… Bought the Mini 2, when it was released, sold the Mini a couple of months later, in pristine condition, despite a few flights and got £320 for it, as it was the combo and new will cost you just over £450 (from DJI). THE Mini 2 combo, cost me just over £550, minus the £320, so £220… and by the time al that was sorted and having flown the mini 2 hundreds of times. Along come rumours of the Mini 3 (or maybe the Mini 2 S, who knows)

To be quite honest, the Mini 2 has al the features I need and even if the Mini 3 (whatever) came with tracking and obstacle avoidance, I doubt I would use them. I don’t use the quickshots either…in my opinion they were just a novelty that quickly wore off… 4K is enough for me, and it’s higher resistance to the wind and better connection using occusync 2 is perfect.

So unless I come into a very large sum of money I won’t be forking out even more for the Mini 3 ??? , unless of course DJI offer and upgrade price… say £250, then sure I’d go for it.

So enjoy your new (replacement) Mini 2, it’s an amazing drone and seriously, unless the mini 3 comes with features that you really really really need (not just want) or you use it commercially as well as for fun… or both… Then I would stick with the mini 2

As many have said already just get the mini 2 unpacked, get out, fly and enjoy it. If it’s something i have learned over the last 18months or so, you never know what crap life can throw at you. Even if the Mini 3 arrived next week I for one wouldn’t be in a rush to purchase it straight away. The mini 2 does everything I need it to. It really is a fantastic drone. I just need to able to get back on my feet and get back out to fly. Life’s too Short!!

I know… we are talking about DJI here, but hey… If they can send you a brand new drone for only the cost of refresh, why not offer an upgrade price… A few of the big names in smartphones do it, why not one of the biggest names in drones. The only thing that would make me want the Mini 3, without question would be a new camera, with variable aperture, colour profiles etc…

No chance at the price point, they didn’t even put them on for the A2S (next step up)

One thing I hope they do, do going forward is to buy the drone without the controller at least. I don’t need this many controllers!!!

Just as a ps to my vote to keep the mini 2 and enjoy today , I would like to add I’ve had with being among the first to buy new things when they first come out as mostly new things are a pain in the arse better to wait awhile until all the problems have been fixed

So I have just been on an aerial photography course (photos still to come) however one of the people that was with us had a mini and I thought it would be a great drone for me to buy replacing the Mavic 2 zoom especially since I live right in the middle of London?

My questions are do I buy one and if so do you think there will be a mavic 3 mini and if so, do I wait for that to release and buy that?

There was a similar thread not long ago…

The general consensus was that the Mini 3 isn’t even a rumour yet, so go ahead and get a Mini 2 :+1:

Personally I might be thinking about the Autel Nano which is released today.

@alexmciver we have moved your post to the same question asked last week. Please scroll up, it contains a lot of valuable advice.

When the Mini was about to be released there was a sudden rush of owners trying to offload their Spark’s, and a few regretted it in the long run.

The Mini had a few advantages over the Spark:

It was lighter at below 250g.
It had a longer flight time.
The camera had a higher resolution and was mechanically stabilised on three axis (The Spark was mechanically stabilised on pitch and roll but yaw was electronic.

However the Spark had very strong pro’s over the Mini:

It had forward facing obstacle avoidance.
It was heavier and had stronger motors and so was more resilient to wind.
It had more flight modes, including active tracking.
NFZ’s, FCC power levels, increase in speed, and attitude mode (flying without relying on GPS) were easy to implement without having to pay a fee.
Autonomous Waypoint Mission Planning via third party APPs.

I still own a Spark and I skipped on the Mini, but I did buy a Mini 2. Why I bought a Mini 2 I’ve yet to figure out as I’ve yet to travel further than the end of my driveway to fly it. I think since buying the Mini2 I’ve still used my Spark more (along with my Anafi’s) as it suits my flying style more, especially in Attitude mode where I’m not fighting the decisions of the GPS.

I would say to anyone intending to invest in a new drone release, wait until all those YouTube “Influencers” videos have become irrelevant after they have signed the NDA’s, and agreed to terms they won’t disclose, whom have received the new release FOC only to tell you how great it is, and then within days the manufacturer is rushing around to release firmware, and sometimes hardware, updates in an attempt to fix issues they thought they could get away with.

You can now breath again.

With the new Mavic 3 coming out , November is rumoured , I don’t see them releasing a mini3 until 2022 at the earliest now.

Mini 2 is v v competent wee machine and the 8n!y thing missing is more sensors for obstacle avoidance which the other vendors are putting on their sub-250 drones …

I realised I was better with the 2 using it now rather than being droneless ….go for the 2

Really don’t think obstacle avoidance is a big deal. Is anyone intentionally flying their drone too close to things?

Follow me on the other hand. Yes please.
