Selling drones

Hi Everyone,

This isn’t a sales ad, I’d save that for the correct section, this is a question as to people opinions on the best place to sell them. I am looking to get a larger drone but I have to sell my DJI Mini 3 Pro combo and Avata 2 combo drones in order to do that but wondered what protection is available if selling on GADC rather than eBay etc? Everyone seems to be good character on here but I thought I’d ask in case there’s anything I’m not aware of. I mentioned the drones above for context, would they be best sold on here to give someone an opportunity for a bargain and sellers are well-enough protected, or is it no better thank eBay and the like?

Many thanks in advance for you time in contructive feedback - I would not hold anyone responsible in the probably unlikely event where sage advice given was proven wrong!

Great question.

There isn’t any protection per se but as with any buying and selling platform, it pays to take the usual precautions.

I’ve sold a few items in here without issue and have found the following to be the norm.

Payments - use paypal goods and services: this gives you a level of buyer protection that you would normally get with the likes of ebay

Postage - Always use tracked and insured postage : this covers you incase something goes wrong and will also give you proof of delivery - without this making a claim will be almost impossible.

Meet in person - Personally I prefer to meet people and fly a drone to ensure no issues.
That way you can take cash in person.

Note - I often play baseball so carry said equipment in my car :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Great advice, thank you. I didn’t realise about Paypal G&S so will check that out.

The obvious scammers will always ask for family and friends payments. This gives you no recourse at all so be aware.

I can’t say we don’t have any dodgy people on here but i’ve yet to meet one in 4 years or more

There is a lot of advice for both buyers and sellers over here

As with anything in life, due diligence is key - which you appear to be doing already by simply asking this question

Great advice also, thank you - I had read that a few times but good to know that’s the best info.

All good advice that I agree with. Only thing I would add is check the seller’s DJI account has been completely disasociated from the drone / controller before handing over the dosh.

I’ve bought a few things on here and I’ve gone by trust, I’ve paid big money before item has even been posted and not gone protected payment.

Never had any problems,

I’ve sold several items in the past, (not drones on here), and asked for PayPal friends and family as there were no associated fees payable that way, and I’m not a scammer! Not sure if PayPal have changed the rules on fees since though

All awesome advice and very much appreciated, thank you :+1:

I guess it depends on who you are selling to. There’s been a few sales on here to people i’ve actually met and meet a few times a year so theres trust.

But if its someone unknown to you then a few pound extra for peace of mind is worthwhile.

Good one

One thing I would do is look how long they have been a member, if they joined in the last week/month then that could be something to look into. Also how much have they participated in the groups, have they been to meets or are they known by people.

In other words, if they are a stranger to most on the forum then take extra precautions.

I have bought a couple of things off members and not had problems but I did check prior to see how known the people were. With Ebay etc… they are a strager to you. On a forum like this you would at least expect someone to know them or them to participate with things.

I think we were talking about people who were not dodgy mate lol

The battery was great but I would not be interested in your “Special” controller.

Joking apart, I paid Kirky a very long time before getting the battery, that was down to the fact that I was going to pick it up personally when I was in the area. No problem at all. Once again, someone who is active on the forum and recognised.

Although I think we was supposed to meet up earlier & fly our drones to make a day of it but I think it was my indecisiveness on a daily basis that, that plan went out the window :person_facepalming:t2::laughing:

Ended up meeting you by the chippy (the chippy I gave a bad review of lol). We were in the area on way back from relatives. We pass that way and never know what time we get there.
