Silbury Hill, Avebury, Wiltshire

A short video around and above Silbury Hill, just outside Avebury in Wiltshire.

The hill is entirely man-made and was built over a period of 50-150 years around 4,500 years ago. It was built fairly soon after the completion of the Avebury stone circle and sits in a complex prehistoric landscape including West Kennet long barrow (which pre-dates it by c.600-700 years) and (further afield) Stonehenge. It is the largest prehistoric mound in Europe.

Despite the appearance of several paths from the base to the top, there is no public access to climb the hill owing to its rather fragile chalk construction. As a result, drone footage is really the only way to get a view of the top of this fascinating structure.
