Looks like it’s all setup now…
Looks an expensive setup there…
especially after a crash…![]()
If I deck it during FPV, it will be shelved…![]()
Just don’t forget to record every second in 120fps
“You like your slow motion”
I think my old GoPro 3 can shoot 120fps…![]()
I have been working on this today. It’s a holder for my fpv watch so I can attach it to my goggles strap and plug it into my goggles and record from the av out (because I’ve broken the goggles recording function).
Just printing off two versions to see which is better.
This first version is slightly wrong (I can’t get the goggles strap through it).
I’ve had one of these for years, perfect for recording and it’s small enough not to be a pain amongst the other FPV but large enough you don’t have to squint…
At £10 at the moment.
Not a particularly exciting bench story but might be interesting in a lukewarm kind of vibe.
I have a few Vortex 285’s which by today’s standards are positively prehistoric. They were probably the first out of the box FPV racers. They have a folding frame which is both a blessing and also a curse. A Blessing because in a crash the arms fold saving your arms and motors. A curse because if you go down in a race you’re finished, and if you’re using fixed three blade props your LiPo is usually killed in the process.
This morning I decided to bring one of my spare 285’s into 2018. I’ve installed the Vortex Gen 2 Fusion board, the one used in the Ummagawd and. Metal Danny 250pro’s. Taken out the FrSky XM+ receiver and gone for the EzUHF, and instead of my usual 4s 1400mAh packs I intend to use the 3s 4,000mAh Multistar pack as it’s only 40g heavier.
Seeing as endurance discovery is gaining popularity I thought I’d see how something old and pretty much forgotten compares to the current crop.
In the past if the quad failsafed or I lost video I set it to switch into Angle mode and the barometer to kick in, sort of ATTI mode if you wish, and as I always fly out into the wind it would pretty much drift back into range. This time I intend to install some form of GPS rescue, the Vortex was designed with a port specific for GPS, as drift and wait is clunky at best.
For the record I only paid £30 for this particular Vortex, still sealed in the box, from a clearance sale a year or two ago, so again I’m being positively cheap and moderately cheerful.
Nidge.
Jesus that rx is massive!
Ironically it’s one of the smaller EzUHF receivers, 4ch PWM and 12chPPM. They do a Nano rxer but I’ve not got any of those to hand. I have a bunch of the 8ch PWM/PPM diversity receivers but the pins are exposed and would be too close to the battery for comfort. A couple of weeks ago I range tested one of them out to 3miles and still had 100% link quality. However I’ve also used the same frequencies and power outputs to access a satellite at 630km altitude using a simple rubber duck antenna, so how much trouble could I really get into? ![]()

Nidge
I will stick to crossfire for long range.
“Decided not to use rubber bands and cable ties for the RX and battery”
“making sure everything fits”
MKII.1/2
🤦🏽 …”above picture is the wrong size antenna mounts, got it mixed up in the drawing by me being lazy…2Hr 49min later.
Definitely done now…Couldn’t wait for the print to cool down…
Antenna orientation is correct now.
To setup the MSH Brain 2HD flybarless head needs a near perfect levelled chassis, hence another 3D printed levelling tool.
The Brain has an Auto level mode Which I’m hoping will be my go to landing mode while in FPV flight.
The time spent in setup may payoff later after initial flight trials as I’m not familiar with this gyro.
The RX, battery and switch module is now complete and the antenna phase is correct now.
The next task is to move the battery under the frame and below the mast to make room for the camera,VTX and OSD.
Mock-up
So, seeing as you didn’t let me fly your Inspire the last time we met, will you let me give this chopper a pop?
It’s only got one rotor so easy to tip over…just saying as I’ve got first shout on tipping it over.
