So... what's on your bench at the moment?

30 mins and still saying full battery. But the watch is pretty warm now!

I hate to say this but …
The stock at Flying Tech now has the DVR version :zipper_mouth_face:

On my bench today? …

I’ve finished my Ground Station, (not to say I won’t change it sometime in the future)
It gives me:

  • a bloody good 9" monitor display with diversity 5G8 receivers built-in, a DVR and own battery recharged as required.
  • a Li-Ion 18650 battery pack, 3S4P at 14000mAhr, primarily for charging monitor and powering receivers but beefy enough for some LiPo charging as well
  • the GS can be powered from 12v external battery also, switchable
  • XT30 power outlet
  • XT60 power outlet
  • Tarot 1G2 Receiver, video and audio into monitor (and DVR), also to a 5G8 25mW transmitter to relay signal to FPV goggles.
  • cheap cell monitor to warn if pack going low.

and of course a tripod shoe so I can have it at eye-level.

Cheers Steve

Like the repeater idea. Very well made!

With the final XT60 panel mount housing arriving yesterday I’ve been able to complete my ‘Flying Field’ charging pack :+1:
It started life as a 12S 1P Samsung module for a PHEV. I’ve reconfigured it to 6S 2P and provided both a 6S and 3S output connector (3S 'cos my balance charger, a UnA9, only likes <14v)
In this configuration it gives me 74AHr which will charge a lot of 3S 1400mAh FPV packs
I put in a substantial balance port as this will be the primary method to re-charge it.
It weighs much less than the car battery I was carting about and with it’s proper handle is a damn sight more comfortable.

Cheers
Steve

Why don’t you morph it into a ‘follow me’ inav rover…

Mmmm. It would certainly have plenty if power
It could follow me on my ‘walks of shame’
:laughing::laughing:

I have some Skyzone goggles, and the neat thing they can do is pick up 2 video signals and display them simultaneously. One in each eye. You’re meant to get a feeling of depth perception in the fpv experience.
I tried it with a stock camera, which are about 3 inches apart, and a dual vtx a couple of years ago, and it was, different, for close objects. It was like looking through a window, rather than looking at a tv screen.
But in the air, it was just like normal fpv.
Now I am going to use 2 separate camera’s mounted further apart, on adjustable mounts to have a play (eyesight convergence).
I’m hoping I will get some depth perception in the air, for added realism.
Something to do eh? Some parts are yet to arrive!

Just finished installing DJI fpv kit in my AR900

Keep us posted, sounds interesting :+1::grinning:

Hi,
How do you like the AR Wing?
I am considering getting one to replace my rather damaged F1 Wing
Cheers

Got it to replace a well battered S800 flies fine what i do like is that there is a lot more room in the bay than the S800 so have more choice of batteries.

Well it’s a bit of a bodge with lots of cable ties and mishmashed wires, but I just built my stereoscopic fpv quad (10").
I haven’t flown it yet, but the image of my back garden through the goggles is much more realistic. There’s definitely some depth perception. It’s hard to describe. It does feel like you can really tell some objects are further away than others.

When building your own kit there’s no such word as “Bodge”. That word can be replaced with “Tactical”, “Experimental”, “Developmental”. Alternatively when someone else describes it as a bodge you can use many words, such as “ It’s my bloody build and I’ll do it how I want. Now piss off”.

I will be interested in how you get on flying under the goggles and whether you start to encounter some excessive eye strain with the cameras mounted so far apart. I know from experience with binoculars that are not collimated properly, especially large observation Bono’s, that eye strain becomes a big issue. The brain can still process the two images into one but the muscles controlling eye movement become fatigued quite quickly.

True words Nidge.
I did read somewhere that depth perception in humans degrades quite rapidly over 19 metres. Hopefully the increased separation will extend that. It’s just an experiment. Also, I have no way of changing the convergence of the cameras mid flight. I’m not sure it’s an easy thing to do. So the cameras are parallel. I’ll let @Steviegeek have a go too if his skyzones have turned up. It’s got inav and poshold.

Not got them yet, ordered stock from Banggood UK, then they tell me no stock, a week or two away apparently.

"inav and poshold !! I should be able to fly that

seriously, It looks very interesting, can’t wait to see if the increased depth perception helps with going around a tree two miles away. (that is within VLOS for my spotter obviously :+1:)

and, of course, there’s always version 2, 3, 4 etc. of any development product :+1:

If we get out this weekend, have you got your diopter lenses? To put in my skyzones? I had the misses run round the back garden with the quad and it really is better for fpv. It’s more realistic. It’s almost like you have peripheral vision? Obviously be better in hd…

I’m OK for Sunday morning, working all saturday
no, not got diopter’s old prescription says +3/+3, they come in either +2 or +4’s, I have eye test booked in 10days
I’ve got some old glasses I was thinking of cutting up, that’s how my mate did his.
I’d prefer Twycross club field, but if you want to meet with others at the golf course that’s OK we can go there.

 Get the dremel out!
Twycross sounds fantastic. The others don’t invite me so much. They got their own things going on.
Can my misses and the dog come? They will walk and she will pick up the mess.
