The Volador. Still not a straight swap; had to make an adaptor for the flight stack and drill out the VTX mounting holes to take M3s. But it’s streets ahead of the poor old Darwin 79.
However, 10 seconds into its first flight it suddenly flipped upsidedown. Fortunately I was only a couple of feet above grass but the frame has cut into the power lead and the was a little bit of sparks and smoke going on right there.
closed (just about) and ready for a test flight tomorrow - lets see if I get any gps signal with the vtx on
uaw 560g with a 1400mAh
may need to rework the cam angle though - looks like 50 degrees - bit more than what I had in mind for a first flight
Something ‘interesting’ I learned today (I should read the marketing blurb more often ) – the Walksnail M-181 gps has a built in battery so it keeps sat positioning even if main battery is unplugged for a few mn
It makes it the perfect candidate of you already have something to switch the VTX off (pit mode on FC, RealPit board,…)
Anyway - also starting on my new project (I have a busy build schedule lined up )
Not strictly accurate, the battery maintains the almanack of sat. data so that when re-powered it will get a ‘fix’ quicker if it’s roughly still in the same position.
It’s know as ‘hot start’ as opposed to ‘cold start’ when it has to wait to collect a new almanack.
The problem with our hobby is that the powered up time is a small percentage and over time the battery goes flat. Once upon a time I tried to remember to power all my models for a couple of hours every week but never actually did it religously.
Some of the newer M10 units have a tiny super capacitor which works much better than the old button cell battery
yeah - I was impressed how quickly I got the sats back after swapping batteries on the racing quad and got a fix in a few seconds - I spent a couple of hours trying (and failing) to fit a GPS mate in there just for that reason – glad I did move to the plan B straight away (longer standoffs )
The plan seems to come together nicely - fitting in the new very tight Era 5" frame my signature LED’s ( ) as well as a GPS and a buzzer (because why not )
Really good build tutorial though - learned a few things watching it
Spoke a few time with Mr Fossils - very nice man and quite a known figure on the circuit (still races X-Class and manages a team of pilots also) - he is behind the https://www.fossilsstuff.com/ site.
Their X-Class frame is well rated - pretty much every UK pilot use them
and I just realized now some people on here have experience with them (for some reason I never thought of using the search function ) – do you still have them @GunjaFPV , @Steviegeek ?
also - I see mention of Tmotor F1000 – does anybody know the stator size of those motors? searched for 30mn online and cannot find anything
finally - anybody has any experience with Sequre ESC?
In a nutshell - ADP who was the prime supplier of the 12S electronics has just retired from public/hobby sales (to focus on military programs…) - so everybody is looking for alternatives and they seem few and far between…
Ever only flown Stevie’s and someone else’s. Be mad to own one, can’t just fit at local park. Stevie’s was wobbly. Arons (not on this sight) was lovely. Beautiful to fly
Load of internal wiring to do with 7 switches. The design will means I can switch to power chargers from laptop or 30Ah battery. Or have the isdt charge the 30 AH battery. With switch to allow the AOKoda to discharge either XT30 or XT60 batteries to 3.7V via USB sink (cooling fan). AOKoda has a cut-of voltage you can define.
Initial testing have found a bug with the isdt-p10, it has a USB input but does not negotiate PD3.0 correctly. But I am not going to power this with USB.
