Setting up new drone (bind and fly). I think I have one motor which is not performing.
Help ?
All motors spins in correct direction.
All props are on the correct way around.
When testing motor spin in correct direction in betaflight. Three of four motors spin fine, nice and gentle.
When testing motor 4, it sticks. Trying to turn at 2 seconds - finally turns at 5 seconds. Motor 4 can sound different to others when doing RPM test in beteflight.
When arming … I get RPMFILTER error sometime before even touching the throttle. An example…
I not taken this quad outside. It is freshly unwrapped from sealed packing. Props added. OSD changes. No other betaflight changes.
If it was one I’d built myself I’d check solder joints on the ESC for the motor thats playing up. If that didn’t work I’d look at replacing the ESC. If it was cheaper or I had a spare already I’d probably try replacing the motor first but I’d be more thinking it’s an ESC issue.
or if I didn’t have a sapre motor I’d swap a motor with one of the working ones to see if the fault moves with the motor as a fault finding method to determine ESC or Motor issue.
Hi Brendan, I agree with Dean I’ve also had a couple of motors like this in the past. I’d just check the screws if it has any that hold the props on, sometimes they touch the motor windings.
Like Deans said soldered joints if all ok I can only think it’s the ESC at which point I’d ship it back, if you haven’t done any work on it there shouldn’t be any issues with…
When the drone is sent out after repair, it will be tested again. Your problem is very strange. Try turning off the two-way DShot to solve the RPM error problem.
I am away from drone at the moment.
But feeling grumpy about the response
surely if it was a bidirectional dshot issue then all 4 motors would be the same? or 2 of them at the very least?
Seems like a bit of a half arsed response if you ask me…
And if it was tested before sending it out after repair and was working then surely turning off bidirectional dshot isn’t the issue because it would of been on when they “tested” it before sending it back?
Yeah I agree with the answer being a bit “half arsed” and DShot would affect all motors not just one. Take off the props in case thats related, check they are all using the same screw lengths, in case one from that motor was slightly longer or something. I would still test without props on to be sure.
The ESC on FC / AIO boards are usually 4 separate esc chips so for example, when running a firmware update on ESCs you need to do it 4 times to update them all. I’m thinking it might be worth connecting it to https://esc-configurator.com/ website and checking the ESC settings and firmware versions for each ESC. Maybe one has a different setting or version.
Works like Betaflight, but since the ESC’s wont start without power you’ll need to have the battery connected to test it, so careful of VTX temps
Props all the same as far as I can tell - the prop cal with the drone.
It a good shout for reference, but I am at this stage dont want to change anything. I brought a bind and fly and after two months. Not getting it … And I am being charged postage.
Looks like I am shipping back for full refund.
Anyone know of a small walksnail, bind and fly, with GPS. …
Hey mate did you manage to get this resolved ??? the reason I ask is iv just update the firmware on my new Cinelog20 and had a similar issue. Mine turned out to be a Gyro issue which is really easy to workout and resolve, just a case of plugging into BF, happy to help if you what try it ??..
Dead simple, plug you drone into BF, go into setup tab pick it up and start moving it around. If the drone acts as it should when you tilt it in the relevant way i.e pitch to left it goes left, pitch to the right it goes right and so on.
If everything does as it should it means you gyro is set up correct, let me know what you find…
I get both sides of this, yah swapping is a defo the best way of checking but if it ain’t that, he then can’t send it back as he’s tampered with it.
Plus sending it back is going to cost P+P and you’ve gotta send it recorded which is ££. When you’ve just sent good money on something it’s a kick in the nuts having to spend more.
I suppose to the likes of us who have been in the hobby a while it’s part and parcel of the game unfortunately …
