Suitable Budget Android Phone for my DJI Mini 2?

Hi everyone
Just bought my first drone, a pre-owned / very little used DJI Mini 2 Fly More kit . I need to upgrade my mobile from my current Moto 5,( on Tesco ) as it is running on Android 7 O/S , to something that will allow me to download the DJI Fly App but on a budget , as Android 7 won’t let me install the DJI Fly app. onto my Moto.
Any ideas for a ‘budget’ ( up to max £150 ) phone that will work ?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Have you looked at any phones that are compatible, up too date to work with the fly app ? ,
Might give you an idea with your budget …
I use apple so sorry I can’t advise with android.
Maybe have a look on here first

The DJI approved phones are all main stream Samsung, etc., and not cheap - let alone £150 cheap.

I thought that, that said none of the apple I phone se’s have ever been listed for the fly app but for me when I had them, worked better than what I have now, I phone 12.

I use a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro. You can pick them up for £170, sometimes less.

I used to have all the mainstream flagships before that. But honestly can’t justify spending £1,000 on a phone, when a £150 phone will do at least 80% of what the flagships can.

I used mine with the Fly app, works fine. It has 6.67" 120hz screen which is 1200 nits, so bright outdoors, even on a sunny day. The 108mp camera takes great photos and videos too. Full specs here.

Samsung Galaxy Note8 SM-N950 - 64GB

I bought this November 2020 to go with my new mini 2 released same month.

I went through mini iPads and other tablets in the past and at that time found nexus 7 tab the best imo but I wanted something to compliment the mini 2 in size and quickly set up with out the bulk.

I did the search and found that this phone was amazing in bright sunlight, I’m using it with my air 2s atm.

I recently tested a new Samsung 10 inch tablet and immediately went back to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 as the Nits on this is awesome if thou it’s a few years old.

You can get this cheap on eBay for ½ the price of your budget.

Before you spend your money on a phone check the Nits as this is definitely one of the most important things you should look at imo otherwise your be looking to be in a shaded area under trees against a building which since using this phone with my bad eyesight have never worried about bright days.

I’m using an Honor 10 Lite. Not the brightest but never had any issues with the Fly app.

Have a look at CEX. they do some good second hand stuff and everything they sell online comes with a 2 yr warranty. Haven’t bought a new phone in years.
Maybe a Google pixel 4a would do the job. Some bargains to be found.

Many thanks for this, more to check out.

Yes, I’ll have a look at CEX as there is a store local to me.

Many thanks for your reply.

Thanks, hadn’t heard of this one.

I use a Huawei P40 lite E that I bought off a member on here for £70. I think it takes 256Gb SD cards and when I’m not using it for flying, I change the card, link the Bluetooth earphones to it and play Da Blues man!! :grinning: :grinning: :grinning: :grinning:

Yet another one to look for.

I downloaded the fly app on a Motorola G10 no problems.
Phone is great.

Thanks Stillight.

Just to add, the Fly App specs say Android 7 or later - did you try the APK download on your phone?

Failing that GiffGaff sometimes have good prices on refurbished phones.

Have you not considered a tablet?
Much bigger screen than the average phone, and also safe from being interupted by calls in the middle of a flight.
I now use a 10" amazon fire tablet - {black friday deal at around £80}, but their 7 inch tablet costs less than £60 (only £35 when they have their offers on)
Its also easy to sideload the google play store
