This is too deep (pun intended( for a simple scorekeeper to make a decision on. It will have to go before the faceless ones for deliberation and judgement. One question will additionally be asked - can a joker be retrospectively applied?
We managed to catch the empty suits before they left the building (and surprisingly sober). Apparently happy hour doesn’t start in the Prop & Gimbal until 18:30 on Wednesdays.
The considered opinion was:
Yes, it was a flight over water in the spirit of the competition. The competitor’s UAV went up and down a length of the canal following a boat.
Jokers need to be claimed when posting the original entry.
Oh come on you stupid scorekeeper! Check the rules Only one joker per subject. And he’s already claimed a hyperlapse for this flight.
Keep a very close eye on that @Ian5, he’s a sly one …
This is my entry for 6. A pier or Jetty claiming 1 (one) bonus point only for a boat tied (Moored) to said Jetty. Taken circa 4pm on 12th August at Lock 16, Keepers Lock, Fradley Junction on the world famous Trent and Mersey Canal (200 yards from The Mucky Duck) just off Hay End Lane Staffs. Phew! Mini 4 Pro used to obtain the photo.
I subscribe to Windy for forecasts and find it to be excellent. The wind visualisation is beyond me, but you can set the height for the forecast and get at the wind speeds you need to know quite easily.
We have a local train line with a level crossing operated by real people. To find out times of passing trains, I use Realtime Trains | Search
If planning on a trip somewhere hoping to include trains, this could help.
Now you have initiated a discussion as to what the structure is that the boats are moored to. Pier, Jetty, Quay, Wharf or Pontoon. Click the link to see why we are in dispute!
And there I was thinking my potentially dodgy flight over water was point-less
Hovering over a bottle of Eau - love it.
I would have been surprised - nope, disappointed - if the jetty wasn’t queried. I used to call them pontoons until my mate at Brixham told me that they rise and fall with the tides. So in my tiny mind they’re jetties, but I’m happy to go with your decision.
I note that the definition refers to “shoreline” ie coastal, so I kinda thought that I wouldn’t get points. My own boat at Aston Marina is on the same structure (our marina manager calls them pontoons - jus sayin ) as at Fradley in 2011.
I await your considered opinion . By the way, I have a plan on how to show all sides of a building…
We are also of the opinion that they are pontoons. One of the characteristics of both piers and jetties is that they project - check both the provided link and dictionary definitions. And your pontoon doesn’t.
So maybe a trip to Kings Bromley in the next four weeks will pay dividends - we are asking you to take the subject again.
"We really are most terribly sorry but due to our sensitivity training heavily overrunning (some had to retake the exam four times!) everything is badly delayed tonight and as a result there will be no evening cartoon.
We sincerely apologise and do hope that your appreciation of the Birthday Challenge experience has not been unduly affected … "

The meeting took an unexpected turn when we were denied access to Fort Nelson 45 minutes before the meetup was due to start. So we implemented plan B and went to Portchester Castle instead.
Eight people in the picture (seven club members and one guest) plus Sophie just exiting stage left.
