Used to live just around the corner when I was a student.
A baltic City of Glasgow this morning. Was 5 mins too late getting the drone up to catch the sky on fire.
Mavic 3 Classic - between 5 & 8 separate image HDR’s for these.
Where did you TOAL for here. I’ve always fancied doing it but been a hmmm, about a) where to take off and b) I’m always in two minds about places that respect the dead, but that’s a personal choice thing.
@firstadekit Hi Ade. I took off from the iron gate style barrier that is opposite the rounderbout encased in concrete. You can actually see the lollipop trees through the gap and easily enter onto the perimeter path over the gate if you wanted to. It has permanent no waiting cones blocking off the pull-in area so the Missus dropped me off and picked me up 10 mins later. I wasn’t overly concerned about taking the photos as there are more than I cared to count already in google maps, or on their own website from the public. Every church we ever visit has a place to respect those passed and I was of course respectful and went not long before they closed. Was no longer than 5 mins in the air and had maintained VLOS (I did lose sight for a second as I dodged the biggest buzzard in the bloody world hovering in the late afternoon breeze next to my m3p). I had looked away to set the exposure and looked back up and there it was. Didn’t put in DS entry as it was basically next to the rounderbout.
The mysterious Shirburn Castle near Watlington last May. It’s not open to the public, and impossible to see from the road, so it was fun to catch it from the air. It looks quite well kept, but I believe is semi-derilict and unoccupied inside after family disputes. They did some work on the roof to stop it getting worse. The grounds look well kept, and it’s been used for filming. The Chilterns ridge runs along the horizon. Air 2S.
@BingBong nice set there, having traveled too watlington many times in & around I never knew that was there, I was only out that way Sunday just gone, trying to find a poi, ending up back in reading with nothing
Fascinating story. The current family sound like a right bunch of charmers, but the first Earl was an utter cad! All his wealth and the castle appear to have come from corruption - for which he was convicted - but the hereditary title continued regardless…
That’s British history for you! Most of the Land and property of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales were treacherously gained through corruptable force swapping hands on the back of the blood, sweat and misery of the common man (and women)
.
It’s marked on the OS map, but obviously not with a tourist attraction symbol! You can drive up the cul de sac to the church to the right in the photos, but you need an appointment even to visit that!
Well done ! love the images
Just one from hose hill lakes reading, am finding it difficult editing on a pc as suppose to my phone, I guess like most things, it won’t happen over night,
Practice practice practice
Two very nice images - shame it’s crumbling apart.
Thanks for showing the castle by drone otherwise many of us would not know it was there.
Thanks, it’s a shame the family can’t resolve their differences. Nice to see it before it crumbles further.
Stunning, love the second one.
