13. A Military vehicle

  • In motion :white_check_mark:
  • Not green :white_check_mark:

RNAS Security / Police - Heathcote Road, Yeovilton

taken with mini 3 pro - 26/7/2022

Following my visit yesterday to RNAS Yeovilton I was able to capture a few military vehicles in shot moving.

I accept that some were not close (so cropping would be required). Although three helicopters seemed a lot closer than my photos would suggest! And a bit worrying.

I will enter the closest which was the RNAS security / police. They stopped me to check my details as per the reply here. It is a military vehicle.

I also took a tanker of some description (brown) and a helicopter (also brown) - not actually sure if they have many green vehicles as they tend to be army (AFAIK)

Claiming 3 points hopefully!

Nice one :+1:

Really nice chaps despite their military uniforms. Waved to me as they returned to base on the other side.

Goes to show it is worth having your paperwork on hand.

The only thing I might do different if in a NFZ is to have a second copy of any authorisation to be able to give a copy away.

I claim 1 bonus point for:

  • Spanning a river (must be marked as such on Google Maps)

Proof of Main River designation: ArcGIS Web Application

No Dronescene entry as it’s already pretty damn close to another (by me).

If it’s a different subject, it’s doesn’t matter, if my interpreation of the rules is correct. It’s only if it’s the same subject, so e.g. a AONB could have multiple entries but as they are usually pretty large as long as a TOAL marker is at least 1km from a previous one, it’s then good for a point.

But for a different subject it could pretty much be 100 meters from an existing DS entry and be point worthy. Although not sure many would go flying for that particular bridge, so perhaps participant descrection advised!

This is my entry for:
5, A Clock Tower**

  • Clock showing ten o’clock
  • Ten o’clock being 22:00
  • Drone Scene entry

Photo by mini 2 on 26/07/22 at ermmmm 2200hrs.

This is a photo of the main street in my home town. Stafford is by comparison to other County Towns a sleepy hollow! My TOAL was opposite my favourite Balti, where my supper awaited me! Parking is close to where the A449 starts (one of Stafford’s few claim to fames) on the Junction Island. You can see right along the main streets length from this point and half way down is the High House (one of the finest Tudor buildings in the Country) another jewel of a building that was very nearly trashed if it wasn’t for the efforts of Derek Holt (Band member of the 70s The Climax Blues Band). Stafford County Council building is clearly in view which is quite ironic as they have a Drone Ban Policy (No Bye-law though). Lol

Claiming 3 points please.

Thank you Ben.

We have spent a happy morning scouring Google Earth as your maps don’t have a town or village name on them to give us a clue of where to start. They don’t match if laid on top of one another and there is no marker on either to give us a clue of what we are looking for.

We have narrowed it down to this:

which appears to be close to the junction of Dale Lane and Hinton Crescent, Stockton Heath, Warrington.

The bridge appears to span the Dingle Brook which does show on the map as a watercourse. However it is not the River Dingle Brook.

Dictionaries give the definition of brook as a small stream. Even a list of synonyms for brook don’t include river : Synonyms for brook

Synonyms: Noun

tl:dr

We can’t accept the watercourse spanned by the bridge as a river. One point only.

Which point are you looking to drop?

Good afternoon entrants

Just to make you aware, this goes for all items in the list…

For example, if you get point 8, you get 1 point. The following 4 sub points are bonuses so this item would attract 5 points total

John, we are not allowing the replica Hawker Hurricane as a gate guardian.

From Wikipedia

A gate guardian or gate guard is a withdrawn piece of equipment, often an aircraft, armoured vehicle, artillery piece, or locomotive, mounted on a plinth and used as a static display near to and forming a symbolic display of “guarding” the main entrance to a site, especially a military base.

(Our emphasis)

The Hurricane is neither at nor near the gate. It is 40 metres away. We also consider that it is not “symbolically guarding the gate” as it (and its armament) is facing away from the entrance.

4 points awarded.

What about the eagle on the left of the gate? it’s on a plinth

Thank you for your input. Stevie.

Is the eagle withdrawn? Or an aircraft, armoured vehicle, artillery piece, or locomotive?

We might have allowed, if claimed, the half-ball shaped object to the left of the entrance.

We can’t tell from the photo but it seems to be an airfield defence gun turret, possibly an Alan Williams type. These were installed in various locations around an airfield for potential use against both ground and aerial invasion forces.

While the technician painted the marker on the Drone Scene Map Geoffrey and Cedric sat glumly, contemplating the insurmountable problem of competitors’ failure to indicate whereabouts in the UK their entries were.

Give them a glimmer of hope - when you post to Drone Scene put the nearest decent sized town or city to your subject in the title!

Good evening
Clarification please on item 13
I know wording has changed on a few of the items.Just wanted to make sure before I took the shot.Is the up to date version " In motion " I known it does not specify a video,I take if it will require a video to show the vehicle in motion. Thanks
John

Any means to show a moving vehicle - motion blur, dust trail blurred wheels or not parked by the kerb on a main road …

2nd entry for today - Taken with the Mini 2 at Aurora Leisure Centre in Bangor, Co. Down, 7.15pm, 27/07/22

I’m claiming just one point for:
A 5 a side football pitch :white_check_mark:
Two or more games in progress * :x:
Floodlit :x:
At least one team in yellow shirts :x:

(*there are 2 games going on but it just looks like some kids having a kickabout than official ‘games’ so no point claimed, unless you lot are feeling uncharacteristically generous)
