Item number 21: A 5 or 6 a side football pitch

1: Two or more games in progress

2: Floodlit. ( its 8pm and still sunny, lights are on and here’s photo taken from ground level to prove it ) as lights are hooded, I would have had to virtually land drone on pitch to show in photo??

3: At least one team in yellow shirts

Taken at Horfield Leisure Centre, Bristol with DJI Mavric Air 2 today, 8pm , 30th August 2022

TOAL was local park next door so no flight permission needed although I kept drone flight away from on top of players etc (50m)

:cry:fair point

And another fair point:

We did not think that someone would find a loophole in this subject and photograph a floodlit pitch in daylight.

A reasonable person who saw the picture would not say that the pitch is floodlit. If it were then each player would cast multiple shadows.

A photograph of floodlights on the ground proves nothing. The EXIF timestamp doesn’t match between drone and iPhone , there are no decent points of reference to show that the lights are actually at the ground.

If the main picture - and strictly speaking should be only one picture per post - if the picture does not show evidence of floodlighting no point can be awarded.

A better strategy for securing the bonus point would have been to wait until it was dark enough to see that the pitch was floodlit before taking the picture; at this time of year it would only have been a matter of minutes.

i would have waited yes, but no teams later in evening were in yellow kit, i work evening shifts and am not available to try later in week before deadline i’m afraid at another venue. As for time frame between photos, it shows 19.11 for drone photo, i then had to land drone and put it away in case, then walk closer to pitches for 2nd photo at 19.19, and i was staying within drone code by not flying that close to games/ground with drone, but once again I will abide by committee’s decision although it seems harsh

We have to go on what is visible. And this is the EXIF data we gleaned

in case it helps, this is info on 2nd photo, showing team in yellow and floodlights plus time stamp But again I will abide by your decision

Barry,

Your original photo as taken from your drone does not show that the pitch was illuminated by floodlights. Whilst we accept that you would not have been able to fly the drone low enough to show the floodlights were lit whilst still complying with the drone code, our suggested remedy for this would have been to have taken the photo after sunset when the flood lighting would have been obvious to see.

Though unfortunate for you that the team in yellow would not have been playing at that point, we would emphasise that this is called a Birthday Challenge. The competition spans 7 weeks across the height of summer, and there have no doubt been countless games of 5 or 6 a side football played in a veritable rainbow of different coloured shirts.

As for your evening shifts not being compatible with capturing another entry within the timeframe, all entrants will have their own challenges with regard to working patterns, family commitments, access to transport and the like. Seasoned competitors will plan in their entries around their other commitments; sometimes even taking advantage of work trips or family visits to grab subjects from further afield.

Whilst you may not agree with the decision, our original decision stands nonetheless.

  :man_shrugging:

Just out of interest, any reason why the floodlights were on? It looks like a nice summers evening for a game of footie.

No idea, i had planned to go to Gloucester on thursday evening to do this photo challenge at 20.30 but work changed my rota ( i train people) so i’m not able to do that, so quick panic later i found these games today when i got home after work and luckily there was a team in yellow early in evening, the lights being on was i hoped a bonus as sun was still up, i presume they turn lights on for all games so when sun drops down it’s still lit, no break in lighting etc😳
