The Great Big GADC 6th Birthday and Treasure Hunt Challenge!

Phew, I thought it was just me not being able to query it properly, Laughed out loud when it said there were no Hillforts in GB.

Thanks for that look like the map database is not working

Yes me too, from iPhone and Safari on Mac.

As a workaround, I would use Wikipedia. Not for proof, but to help with planning. Look for blue links on the Wikipedia “hillforts in [your county]” webpage, and check each to see what it says about it the dates of each. It’s highly likely if Wikipedia has heard of it, the Oxford Uni Atlas will have too. Then it’s a gamble on the accuracy on Wikipedia,

Disclaimer: I’m not a member of ChallCom. I don’t have the certain je ne sais quoi.

thanks for that

Me too, just see a map.

Err, we dunno what that is. English only please  :fr:

  • Bonus point for slewing (spinning round) - video only.

I claim 3 points

One point for a drone in flight.

If you have correctly identified the colour another point will be added at the end of the contest.

Please do not speculate with regard to cryptic colours in this thread  :rainbow:

Some bonuses depend on an object being a specific colour. We have provided some not very cryptic clues to the specific requirements just for our own amusement. To keep the tension going we will not add the cryptic colour bonus points to the scoreboard until the end of the contest!

As for the crane - three points!

Storm Antoni might prevent any flying Saturday for me :joy:

There is always the speed record category to play for if you think Challenge photography might prove difficult …

Thanks John, five points are yours

4. A Graveyard

  • Bonus point if there is a mausoleum.
  • Bonus point if there is someone famous (which most people would have heard of, not just a local celebrity) buried in the graveyard (wikilink or photo of the gravestone or similar for proof).

This is Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, one of the biggest operating cemeteries in Western Europe, with a set of mausoleums in the picture.

Taken on the 4th August @1.30pm, Drone: DJI Mini 2.

Wiki has a page which provides a list of people buried in Brookwood Cemetery. I’ve called out Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid ( wikilink here ) an Iraqi-British architect, artist and designer, recognised as a major figure in architecture of the late-20th and early-21st centuries, Her major works include the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympics and the Al Wakrah Stadium (now Al Janoub) in Qatar, a venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup amongst others.

Claiming 3 points, one for the task and one for each bonus.

Thanks

An interesting list of notables! And an interesting cemetery in its own right :

  1. A Graveyard

Milton Mausoleum Nottinghamshire taken 1522 03rd August 2023 DJI Mini3 pro

Claiming bonus point - Bonus point if there is a mausoleum.

Claiming Bonus Points someone famous (which most people would have heard of, not just a local celebrity) buried in the graveyard (wikilink or photo of the gravestone or similar for proof).

The church was built of stone in 1831-2, designed by Sir Robert Smirke and commissioned by the 4th Duke of Newcastle as a tomb for the Duchess, who died in 1822 (giving birth to twins). Ten members of the Newcastle family are buried here.
The church and mausoleum were built by Henry Pelham, 4th Duke of Newcastle (1785-1851) in
memory of his wife, Georgiana (1789-1822) to whom he was devoted. The couple were married in
1807 and from then on Georgiana had a baby almost every year. At the beginning of 1822 they had
eleven children and Georgiana, much to her husband’s anxiety, was in failing health. In May that
year their eldest daughter, Anna Maria (1808-1822) fell ill and died. Four months later Georgiana
gave birth to twins, one stillborn and the other seemingly healthy. Although at first all seemed well,
both she and her baby son died soon afterwards.

Thanks Nigel, we can use the exif data to determine the where, when and with what. But, being inherently lazy and somewhat miffed to be interrupted during our afternoon naps we prefer you to supply the date and the aircraft used :stuck_out_tongue:

5 points!

Odiham can be quite busy and the Chinooks seemtotreat 500 agl as purely advisory. Apart from the weather any problems?

Dohhh… so wrapped up getting the 360 pano working, totally missed the aircraft, time and date, my bad. No problems at all and I was surprised that it was easy to get the permission, I kept an eye /ear out for the Chinooks but no drama. For the record, taken on the 4th August @ 11am , DJI Mini 2.
