The next road down has the three adjacent but they have so many cars, they keep parking the red car ( which they have one ) a few doors away in the wrong direction
@Kirky Knock on the door(s) Rich and ask the owner if he/she could park it where you want to take the shot. They can only tell you to foxtrot oscar or maybe they might say ok.
I’ve thought of that Colin, but on the flip side I kinda felt it makes it less of a challenge than finding it as it should be, if that makes sense which spoils the fun or challenge for me anyway,
Moving on to the boat on a trailer, tractors & diggers etc etc, one of my best mates has it all at his yard with acres of land, who will gladly set it all up for me & I could clear the majority of that up but, again for me I don’t see the challenge in that, which no disrespect has kinda put me off continuing the challenge by setting things up, but hey that’s just old fashioned me, we’re all different & I think going out finding it genuinely is way way more challenging & to me it’s what it’s all about
Richard, the Challenge is about finding things. Some of the subjects have a deliberate element of co-operation built in such as getting permissions from owners of tall structures or from ATC when flying in an FRZ.
This judge at least finds it a challenge to ask people, whether neighbours or strangers, if they could do something to help. But will do so if it brings an advantage.
The elements of the challenge as we see it are research - using the net or the library or asking around to find where subjects may be found. Planning - setting up a schedule and an itinerary to tackle those subjects in a time (and fuel) efficient manner Execution - taking the picture - having first ensured it meets the rules and contains as many of the bonuses as possible, if not all.
Then a large element of the competition is luck and chance. Weather being one of the elements that intrudes. And the chance of a red car outside a house. Luck if an artic is passing over abridge at the exact moment a train is passing underneath.
So if an opportunity arises to shorten the odds in your favour, to make your own luck, by having a word with the skipper of a two-masted vessel or by approaching the owner of a red car or finding out who flies a hexacopter near you - seize it!
Maybe I read the rules wrong or in the past the comps of the hard fast rules a drone in flight, not standing at the top of a car park holding the drone to compose your subject / picture ( figure of speech btw )
By no means am I having a hissy, just my way in a challenge or more of a challenge for me at least, we’re all different & by no means am I knocking anyone in how they go about their way of doing it honestly,
I started out in this with every intention to do the best I can, with no set goal but just to try my best / hardest & at least say I took part in the challenge,
It was a challenge / gamble driving to Oxford & back the other night just for it to pee down with rain but that’s life, that also makes it more challenging as I came home without the two subjects that I really wanted & know I’d have to go back,
I do love a challenge I have all my life, maybe I just didn’t understand it as you have explained,
So I’m sorry if I’ve misunderstood but I’ll carry on doing it the way I intended to do it, regardless as to how many points I get or don’t get, for me & maybe me only that’s my goal or challenge rather !
Thankyou for your explanation
@Kirky I know how you feel, I love the challenge, to be honest I’ve only managed 2 entries so far and the challenge for me was just to pick up the courage to just go fly in an area that is normally very busy, I only fly when there are not many people around, hence the up at 6am last Saturday to get a few shots. I know that 1 or 2 of the challenges will be asking if I can or may I take that picture, but then I think hey I can do this and it would be an education for the person I ask for help. I have printed the list of challenges and take it with me when I fly, just in case.
Yes I have mine screen shotted & I tick them off as I go along
Only problem I have due to my drone being over the 250g I really have to plan ahead, trying to fly the drone like I’m a driving a car but in the sky & where i can TOAL from etc etc All part of the fun tho more importantly the challenge, cheers mate
We at ChallCom will have to have a discussion on this. A speeded up video is not really a timelapse. We shall be back with an answer once we have an agreement.
Any update re Item 2 is a still photo taken with slow speed showing light trails or a hyperlapse video of light trails an acceptable entry.
Re seeking help from others - I tried this and was told in no uncertain terms that any attempt to fly near or photograph their property would result in the police being called immediately. Unfortunately I needed their permission to fly there.
I am resubmitting this, as it has been politely explained to me the submission should be a still image. I am lucky to have a still that meets the brief. Thank you to ChallCom for allowing a second go.
2. Vehicle light trails
Bonus point for timelapse
Bonus point if light trails are on a roundabout.
Bonus point if there are light trails on each of the roads serving the roundabout - minimum 4 roads.
I claim 3 bonus points for:
Timelapse (half second exposure time)
Roundabout with light trails of two vehicles
Light trails on each of 4 roads serving the roundabout (bottom right is less clear but it’s approaching the roundabout passing over the bus stop)
Vehicle Light Trails roundabout Orpington, Kent
4 Aug 2023 DJI Mavic Air 2 still frame 46 captured from a Timelapse video (half second exposure)
I claim 4 points please
