For the items where there is a “cryptic” clue to a colour, I understand that points won’t be awarded until the end of the challenge. However, do we need to explicitly claim the bonus point for the colour, or will it be awarded if correct anyway?

Please let us know you are claiming for colour bonus so we can make an addition to the ageing, valve driven, points adder upper. We would hate to get to the end of the comp and have to manually sift through 500,000 posts on your behalf

After some discussion in the bunker we have come to a decision. As your Steam Locomotive was not accepted due to no visual of the locomotives wheels, you are free to resubmit your entry with supporting evidence of the wheel configuration. This can be in the form of link to a page that confirms the trains wheel configuration.
We would like to point out to all that it is your responsibility as entrants to supply all the necessary information for an entry to be successful, not the responsibility of the judges to go looking for evidence to support your entries.
The ChallCom committee had a busy day after an impromptu roadtrip doing spot checks on locamotive wheel configurations.

‘The last engine, BR 52044 (L&YR 957, LMS 12044) was bought for preservation in 1959 and has been based at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway since 1965. It starred in the film The Railway Children as the Green Dragon. It was out of service from 1975 but was returned to steam in 2001 in its BR guise as 52044 before being painted in its L&YR guise as 957 a few years later. Its boiler certificate expired in early 2013. After a couple of years on display, overhaul started in July 2016.’
