The Great Big GADC 6th Birthday and Treasure Hunt Challenge!

@group-challenges

Hi Richard, thanks for querying the intended definition. @kvetner has kindly given the correct answer already but, to make it the official ruling -

We are looking for houses that would normally be occupied by one family such as a townhouse, terrace, semi-detached, detached or bungalow. We will not accept blocks of flats or industrial premises as conforming to the subject.

Hope this clarifies matters

Perfect thanks ……

Thanks for your entry @Kirky
2 points awarded :+1:t2:

20 single occupancy homes with 6 or more solar panels. Unsure whether the third home counts as adjacent though ( let the committee decide) At least I’m claiming 1 point, hopefully 2 .( if only that third house had a red car, might get a can of spray paint and go round tonight )

Sorry John but it doesn’t :frowning:

If people are at all unsure about any subject all means feel free to check with us before submitting an image. If you do so in this thread then we can use the group-challenges tag to notify all who are subscribed to it. (Hamburger icon, groups, join the group).

THe Collins English Dictionary definition of Adjacent is:

adjacent

(ədʒeɪsənt IPA Pronunciation Guide)

ADJECTIVE

If one thing is adjacent to another, the two things are next to each other.

He sat in an adjacent room and waited.

The schools were adjacent but there were separate doors.

…offices adjacent to the museum. [+ to]

Also we are being lenient for the first week as it is relatively quiet, once people begin to implement their plans and shooting schedules we will be flooded with images which is why we request a certain format for your entries:

  1. To enter an item for the Challenge you need to make a post in this thread containing the following
  • Your photo or video - entries should consist of single still images unless otherwise specified.
  • Subject and bonus items being claimed must be clearly visible.
  • The number and name of the objective it relates to.
  • Which, if any, bonus points relating to that objective you are claiming.
  • The location from where the picture was taken and the aircraft used.
  • Any other information that has been requested or a link to it.

The easiest way is to copy paste the subject:

20. A single occupancy dwelling (house) with roof-mounted solar panels

  • Bonus point 6 or more separate panels visible on the roof.
  • Bonus point 3 adjacent homes each with 6 or more visible separate solar panels.
  • Bonus point 3 adjacent homes each with solar panels, one home with a red car in the driveway or on the road immediately adjacent to the property.

Delete any bonus items you have not managed to find and tell us your total, where the picture was taken and which aircraft you used.

Sorry for the long post but we want to make this contest as easy for you as we (vainly?) wish it may be for us!

John, you get one point for the subject and one bonus point

No bonuses for adjacent houses or red car :frowning:

Total 2 points.

Cheers Challenge Committee ( the spray can is coming out tonight) :rofl:Oh location is on Grampian Way Sinfin Derby

Thanks!

Do you want to borrow our old tagging drone?

Although next year there’s now going to be a bonus for a dumped sofa on the front lawn.

You should have checked on Google satellite view

This is the same road…

Including a red car

Oh a very easy 10 points round here if not a hundred :joy::joy::joy::joy:

Ahh Dronegeek, wrong end of that street for me ( only accessible when I go to the pub, and you know, drinking and drones just do not mix ) plus the owners car was clamped last week for no road fund licence :joy::joy::joy: ( Cops stopped a motorist near me. Checked he had insurance, tax and MOT, He did, so got charged with wasting police time ) :joy::joy::joy::joy:

Sorry @Challenges_Committee, I know we’re well underway, but can I just clarify on bonus points: where there are muliple bonus points do we have to qualify for the first before we can go for the next? Some of them are obvious (e.g. if the bandstand is being used it stands to reason there is actually a bandstand) but can we get the ‘repurposed’ bonus for a newer-style phonebook?

All stand alone @JoeC

but can I just clarify on bonus points: where there are muliple bonus points do we have to qualify for the first before we can go for the next?

Hi Joe, nice to see you back here!

The bonus points are intended to be achieved in isolation, most are not wholly dependent on the other. THe telephone box example has already been answered in a PM to another competitor so it is copied here for all to see:

25. A Telephone Box

  • Bonus point if it’s the old-style red box (K2 or K6).
  • Bonus point if it has been repurposed. Supporting evidence can be from any camera.

The first point you will score is if you take a picture of any telephone box

If, however, the photograph you have taken is an old style K2 or K6 you will receive the bonus point making a total of two points.

And, if you can prove by way of a news article (scanned or on the web) or by a photo taken by yourself that the phone box is no longer in use for communication but has been turned into something else you get that bonus point.

A COMMUNITY charity has repurposed their dilapidated village red telephone box and given it a new lease of life by transforming it into a…

So - phone box, any style other than K2 or K6, just one point

phone box, any style other than K2 or K6, repurposed as something else - one point + bonus - two points

phone box, K2 or K6 style - one point + bonus - two points

phone box, K2 or K6 style and repurposed as something else - one point + both bonuses - three points!

I can’t say I’m a fan of cryptic puzzles at the best of times… and I’ve drawn a blank with every one of the cryptic bonus questions. Any suggestions/hints?

  • “Illuminating colour matches a capital-increasing inquisitor, once a trans-Atlantic ferry pilot”

  • “Colour matches King Charles’ mistress’ wares”

  • “Colour matches Christie’s ornamentation of the aged Quercus”

  • “Colour mirrors a daring firefighter’s hue”

  • “Colour reflects the Cheeky Chappie’s audience’s book colour choice”

  • “Truck matches William Brown’s female nemesis or, alternatively, The Duke’s mood in 1930”

I’m assuming John Wayne was in a blue/black mood in 1930 for some reason?

Give a guy some clues? Please? :person_shrugging:
