Cwmorthin - a hidden gem Part 2/3

Above the village of Tanygrisiau and within the rolling, windswept Snowdonia National Park landscape near Blaenau Ffestiniog, there was once a village called Cwmorthin that was born out of the quarrying and mining of the location’s wealth of Welsh slate.

Cwmorthin itself is now a tiny, abandoned village, but was once home to around 200 people. Even though the last family moved out in 1948, this stunning but brutal location as a place to call home is thought to go back as far as the 11th century as the centre of a farming community.
