The mystery of the Specta Air, Anzu Robotics Raptor T, and other white label DJI clones - Everything you need to know

wonder if it smells of that new fresh paint smell…

I hope they got the masking tape applied well before dipping it in Kermit green.

must have been a bugger to paint without any oversprey or run marks whilst it dried.

just looks like everything is Kermit green… way more than the best applied wrap I’ve seen

Its easier if you take the gymbal off to paint them.

Nice @UAVShipSpotter … ok I take it back about the painting

…but… kermit green! is that just part of the greenwashing exercise like at one stage everything needed an “i” in front of it too be considered cool and intelligent.

my kids still get annoyed with me when I point to a mypad

Yeh agreed. I like green a lot. My favourite colour is Ford signal green. But drones should not be green :person_facepalming:

That’s a lovely shade of Autel Orange :star_struck:

They had the right idea. You can see orange from great distances.

Green on drones is basically camouflage, and will merge very effectively into most British backgrounds. Not that DJI’s grey is massively better; it’s hard to see if the drone is below the skyline and not brilliant in silhouette against the sky either. I like UAVShipSpotter’s orange paint jobs, very neat, but think that dayglo reflective paint might be even better for sighting the drone at distance. And some skins are actual camouflage or work in that way to break up the outline of the drone, like those graffitt ones. Skins are not my favourite thing, make the drone look cheap and nasty, like a schoolgirl’s lunchbox (that’s her box for her lunch, not some horrible euphemism, before anyone picks up on it, btw),

In practice I rely on strobe lighting, and this is surprisingly ineffective in bright sunny conditions, though not too bad in gloomier situations. Still a problem at dusk or night if the drone is low enough for there to be other lights in the background, curse my urban environment with handy shops and regular buses… One of my biggest problems when I’m out flying is still losing VLOS and not being able to relocate the drone quickly, though with experience I am improving slowly.

I can’t help thinking I’d be safer flying by the phone screen whatever the CAA say… But da roolz is da roolz, so I shall continue to do my best. The CAA’s point, that the pilot should be aware of where his drone is and what is going on in the airspace around it is valid, but if I’ve lost the little bugger, the screen helps to locate it if I can see myself or my position from the drone, as does the map in the bottom lh corner.

I’ve adopted the practice of hovering until I’ve located the drone from my position but of course, while that should prevent me flying into things, it doesn’t prevent things flying into me, while it does prevent me getting out of their way. I’ve managed to lose it so effectively that, with 10mins battery left, the only safe thing to do was to press RTH, and there were a couple of anxious minutes until I could hear the little fella, coming from a completely unexpected direction! It came back to hover reassuringly in front of me and I palm-landed!

Sorry, drifted OT a bit there!

There’s a man who’s never flown in direct sunlight

Well, yes, there is that! I have flown into the sun, though, for dawn and sunset shots, and I like photography into the light, about 30degrees off the sun, for dramatic effect.

I meant trying to see the screen in bright light.

Yes, I know, and you’re right, I haven’t as yet pointed the camera directly at the full sun; I imagine it would simply white-out the screen, and possibly not do it, or the drone’s sensor, any good.

You’re not reading the replies, are you?

Read them again

Read what i said.

Come July and August you will see next to fuck all on the screen, have you ever tried to read your phone sat outside spoons?, imagine that when your plastic toy is in the air

Which is why I bought a screen hood, but I doubt that will help much when the camera is pointing at the sun!

I’m out

Randall Warnas CEO of Anzu Robotics

Welcome to one year of Anzu Robotics! What a wild journey it has been! I’m grateful for the gray hairs that are becoming more prevalent each day by taking a new approach to serving the commercial drone market. Anzu 2.0 is being conceptualized heavily and a huge shout out to everyone who has supported the green machine since inception. But our launch would not have been possible without the support of Aloft.

If you are flying drones, especially Raptors, you should really consider registering for Aloft to unlock a whole bunch of features to better support your drone program. And if you’re interested in live streaming, fleet management, etc. their enterprise version is not expensive and could be a gamechanger!

I’m sure Brad Llewellyn and their team will be happy to answer questions, but do yourself a favor and check out their website at the very least: https://www.aloft.ai/

The same Aloft that’s owned by Unusual Machines Inc.

The same Unusual Machines Inc, that’s owned by Donald Trump Jr.

Honestly, even AI couldn’t have come up with this script.

This is still the case:
