The weather! ... and flyability

Bit drafty in “sunny Blackpool “, just been out to check on my greenhouse, coping at moment, though I suspect it’ll be a skeleton by morning (usual). Spend next couple of days collecting bits of “plastic glass” from neighbours.

Ah well… we had fifteen short power blips of 10-15 seconds this morning but it’s away properly now. Here’s hoping it doesn’t take another week for it to get fixed like last time. :candle:

At the end of September 2025, there were two hurricanes - Humberto and Imedla - in the North Atlantic.

Having two hurricanes in the Atlantic at the same time is not unusual, but Humberto and Imelda were very close together. And this proximity led to an interaction called the Fujiwhara effect, causing the cyclones to dance or rotate around one another.

And it was the interactions of Humberto and Imelda’s wind fields that led to the birth of Storm Amy — a distinct feature in the jet stream and the first named storm of the season.

I’m a fussy bugger, don’t like clear blue sky, needs some clouds to make it intersting in fots/vijoez. Don’t like overcast, who does? Don’t like warm weather, I get sweaty, don’t like cold weather, don’t like haze but I like diffused sunlight, like good visiblity for the views but it makes the photos too contrasty, hate the sun in my eyes but prefer ‘golden hour photography, then I complain there’s not enough light!. In most years there’s about 20 minutes in spring or autumn when I’m actually happy with the weather!!! It might be in ythe next few days…

It it does look as if we have some settled flying weather coming up. Shame about the tides, though.

I’m getting fed up with the constant cloud. High pressure stationary ovey the British Isles preventing any change and preventing the cloud from evaporating off. Winds are low and it’s good flying weather in that sense, but what’s the point, wall-to-wall nimbus, greygregreygreygrey, no decent light, and I’m missing the autumn colours, again (it was the same last year); it’s just depressing!

I’m planning to go to Sudbrook on Friday to video the two Severn Bridges, M 4 & M 48, dull weather or not; it’s not a particularly hard one to go back to to try again (only 2 buses) if I can’t tweak the images in post-editing to something I’m happy with. High tide in the estuary and light winds should double the amount of light available, so it shouldn’t be too bad!

Stuff coming up on BBC News website and Pinterest now about how dull it is; great shots from the tops of mountains as islands in a sea of clouds, though!

 175 MPH MONSTER! :tornado: Hurricane Melissa is now a Category 5 beast, with hurricane tracking planes clocking winds at 175 mph! This is no ordinary storm — it’s one of the strongest systems the region has ever faced. Our hearts and prayers go out to our brothers and sisters in Haiti and Jamaica, who are bracing for Melissa’s full impact. :broken_heart: Stay alert, stay safe, and stay connected — this storm means business. :haiti::jamaica: #HurricaneMelissa #PrayForJamaica #PrayForHaiti #CaribbeanStrong #StaySafe

Oh, I’m sorry, you’d have to be disqualified for flying above the altitude restriction and going BVLOS :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Would be one hell of a video though :grimacing:
