Maybe worth a watch for any who still might be a little confused about what’s what or need a recap regarding class markings etc, 5 minute video from Ian,
Hi all,
A quick search hasn’t helped.
Has anyone else had the remote id thingy appear on their mini 4?
First time i looked in a while, certainly this year and i found the little field wanting my details.
I have just looked at my Air3S this morning and their is a UAS Remote ID filed under Safety. I enter my ID and it accepted it. I have been way for Jan but it didn’t prompt for a firmware update. I am sure I had checked before.
I thought I saw a thread here (searched but could not find it again) where someone had been in Europe and entered a Remote ID and when they came back it was no longer available. Or maybe they said they bought it in Europe. Can’t remember. I thought maybe mine had defaulted to a different country or something.
If confused me
Im running very old firmware on the 4.
Still height limited but i have the field to enter the credentials on the RC2 controller. I havent tried it with the pro yet.
I dont have it with an upto date 5 tho..
Why ![]()
I won’t be entering mine until I’m legally obliged to at the required year.
Wanted to see if it would accept the UK code, I can always delete it. I am ok with Remote ID anyway.
It will be on some database by now… ![]()
I too haven’t an issue with remote ID but I won’t be submitting it until I have to.
I work in Public Security, part of that is Digital Forensics and Big Data Analytics and Data Privacy. Its not that big a deal IMHO.
I tried to enter my rid details and got a format error.
you have to put the hyphen in yourself if that helps.
it confused me that it appeared at all as the video recently posted on youtube comment was DJI will update the firmware end of 27…… has me questioning as to whether you have to have it now for a C class to be considered a UK class drone….. dunno
They don’t, no. RID isn’t needed for C classed drones until 2028. ![]()
The CAA appear to have updated some of the guidance on their website specifically on their Where you can fly and Class marks pages.
It looks like they’ve separated out tables which previously referred to both class markings and weight and gave the wrong impression that you could fly anything weighing up to 900g in A1.
For example, this is one of the old tables:
This is the new version:
I am still not sure it all quite matches precisely with the legislation or helps tell you what happens if you modify your class-marked drone (despite the CAA telling me they were working on improving such guidance) but still, it probably gives more clarity.
There have also potentially been a few words changed in the green flashing light section but nothing I can see that materially changes that rule.
And, whilst writing this, I now see that @ianinlondon has already made a video on the subject and was potentially the driving force behind the changes:
way better way to show this info to clear it up as before it almost suggested that non class marked drones were being treated as being classe based on weight.
Now the class marks are more to do with safety / autonomous features to make them safer to fly due to newer tech and weight is a bit more of a secondary thing.
Good on Ian for challenging this and being a bit of a driving force to have this changed and cleared up.
Dont go telling zzz’vana that ;o)
I’ve had 4 emails to the CAA over the last 3 weeks on this, linking every page and table that was contradicting things… That said, my slant was very much to push it was all based on class marks OR weight, but they went the other way and removed all the tables implying weight alone was enough…
I admire your persistence.
I e-mailed the CAA at the beginning of the year about strobe lights and what categories I could fly a modified class-marked drone in and, after two weeks, I got a confusing e-mail back from their Shared Service Centre (sadly, not the Policy Team).
As part of the response, they said they would update the guidance on the CAA website so I didn’t pursue it any further, pending those changes.
I suspect those changes are now never going to come. However, I am not sure I have the patience to contact the CAA again and point out each of the contradictions in their e-mail.
Im happy with c2 and near people ![]()
So for my DJI Mini Pro 3, not much has changed?
@Ben.B not much. Check out Good 2 Go and select you drone from the drop down list options.
