Got a HappyModel Crux35 recently and posted some initial thoughts here:
Love flying this thing, and it goes like stink too. Sadly though, there seems to be a problem with the EX1404 motors that come with it. I’ve seen others comment that the motors were a bit meh but it flew absolutely fine. Until I tried to film anything with an action cam. There was a little jello in the goggle feed but the footage I shot on the DJI Action 2 had loads of vibration and jello. I was sooooo gutted tbh as this was why I got the little DJI camera! I stuck the Action 2 on my Rekon and it was absolutely smooth as so was fairly certain it was something on the Crux.
I strapped everything down super tight, which made no difference at all and I then tested the motors one by one. Every one of them, including a spare set I bought, had some pretty bad vibrations at certain speeds. It also didn’t happen at a constant speed with all the motors, it was completely random at what speed each motor vibrated.
To me PID tuning etc. is still a dark art and I looked at trying to tune it out, but it was a fairly excessive buzz on most of the HM motors to the point where you could feel it strongly when holding the camera by the TPU mount it’s in.
So, I gave in and lashed out £40 on 4 Xing Nano 1404s. They are slightly lower kv but tbh I’m ok with that. The key thing is… they’re smooth as. Night and day difference compared to the HM motors.
So - not quite the original bargain. But am super happy with how it is now, I’ve shot some v. boring test footage on the DJI camera and it’s really smooth now with the iFlight motors.
