Universal (Studios) Ban Drone Flights

Universal UK have posted a cease & desist message on their website banning drones from flying over the new theme park :scream:

Couldn’t have published a better universal challenge

Notice to Drone Operators
Cease and Desist Unauthorised Drone Use
We appreciate the tremendous excitement for our project. However, as our site activity and preparation works increase, we have an important responsibility to consider and protect the safety and welfare of those working on-site. This includes managing unauthorised drone filming which we have experienced being undertaken at low-altitudes, clearly identifying personnel and being shared online.

As a result, we have issued cease and desist notices prohibiting the use of drones over or near our construction site without prior written authorisation. Copies have been placed around the site and are available to download.

Please be assured we will continue to update the community on our project and will be publishing regular information on our website as we progress.

I do want to see this being challenged haha - they are not in Kansas anymore haha.

They ( the Universal contractors ) can only really deal with the idiots that are causing criminal damage.

Would love to see how a judge deals with this as basically you have been asked / warned and could you really say “I didn’t see the notice”

Its quite a bit of overreach on their part for sure - but they have the money so who knows how that pans out - but really they need a cease notice about their notice with a bit of an education on the drone code and who “owns” the sky haha

I cant see how this is enforceable except for TOAL on their land, or if/when there is an NFZ/PSBO over the site. But it seems to me, they are trying the national trust route which ended up as the NT admitting they couldn’t do anything but enforce TOAL from their land.

I mean i wouldn’t want drones flying in around the rides, but there are laws that cover that already (flying over crowds etc).

Them going in all heavy handed and wrong is just a red rag for every auditor to descend on the place to “educate them” which will make the whole thing worse.

Surely it’s still a public place where there’s no expectation of privacy ? Makes you wonder if it’s really going to be a theme park :wink:

Private land so not really.

Maybe, but you can take off from a public road nearby. As long as there’s no flight restrictions in place, they cannot stop you overflying the site.

I have emailed them telling them their cease and desist isn’t worth the paper is not written on. I look forward with interest with their reply

Better to go out and fly over the site to see their reply.

Might make a few quid out of too if you clickbait it right

Haha

I see the BBC have picked up on this story although they make no reference to the legislation regarding drone flights.
