Iām very surprised there is not more discussion here about the new VLOS regulation the CAA slipped in last week after the updated Drone Code came in and starting Jan 1st 2023.
For me the new regulations if followed means almost the END of NORMAL drone flying, you have to be able to physically see the orientation of the drone with your eyes, you cant rely on the telemetry or feedback to the controller, the GPS map or any of the controller data, the lights on the drone are apparently not adequate and you cannot yaw to ascertain the Drone orientation, what is the point of having all of this telemetry then. My experiment with EVO1. EVO2 and EVO Nano, all at about thirty feet away, no way could I hand on heart absolutely say which was the front and which was the back of the drone, especially the Nano +, this was stationary on the groundā¦ how can you possibly fly under these restrictions, it is totally crazyā¦ ! Please comment and see Geeksvanaās youtube vidsā¦
Canna wait to close my eyes and wave me hands in front of me before powering up me mini3 pro. Neighbours think Iām mad but they aināt flying 900 quids worth of plastic, copper and silicon for 5 minutes
The number of times Iāve heard the excuse of āI lost orientationā after a 1/4 scale Spitfire dirt-naps on approach to land, and they have a wingspan of just over 2.5metres.
As for being able to tell the orientation, if itās getting smaller then itās flying away from you, etc etc.
I have read that thread in fact at the start before this bombshell I commented, however people dont understand the massive implications this has, Geekvannaās Videoās are a must especially the last one with the CAA person commenting, or should I say waffling following his script making it sound āOh yea, dont worry it will be fineā¦ā rubbish, the same as the rest of the stuff he spouted, people need to realise this could be the beginning of the end, now the CAA have something easy to prosecuted on, get ten of them and hey presto, drones are banned, this is clearly a plan by the DfT to this end.
This single change which they are playing down is the biggest change they have done in ten yearsā¦ people need to knowā¦
Ok , I might be a bit Thick here , But I understand the new laws contradict themselves but still trying to understand how it effects the way I fly my mini 2 drone ā¦ This all gets confusing, even when I watch the youtube videos covering this subject ā¦
it doesnāt, keep flying the way you do. If anyone asks you where your drone is point in the rough direction and say up there, if they canāt see it then doesnāt mean you canāt, and how can they prove it?
Iāve got plenty of problems with the new rules, but the VLOS part isnāt a new rule.
You always had to be able to see your drone well enough to orientate it. All theyāve done is spell that out explicitly.
And given how many YouTube āexpertsā rushed to post vlogs about how the ānewā VLOS rules were going to ruin drone flying, it seems maybe the CAA were right to think people were misunderstanding (wilfully or otherwise) what VLOS actually meant.
Make sure you can see your drone (and which way it is going) at all times
Donāt fly over crowds of people / anybody who couldnāt easily move out of the way of a falling drone
And, as ever, you āmust not recklessly or negligently cause or permit an aircraft (manned or unmanned) to endanger any person or propertyā (covered, IMHO, by Wheatonās Law)
Stick to that and youāre all set.

Golden rule of YouTube: If the title includes either an exclamation mark or a question mark (especially a question mark) itās hyberbolic click-bait and should not be trusted.
All understood and I appreciate everyoneās opinion and the reasons behind them, I dont disagree with any of themā¦ but Iāve done my best to warn everyone here, on Youtube etc, so, you have been warned, next will be multiple prosecutions for VLOS infringements followed by a total enthusiast drone banā¦ wait and seeā¦ Cheers
