What would you change with this FAQ for members of public?

This FAQ we’re going to print out and make available to people during our Waverley Abbey Meetup tomorrow in the hopes it means @bmsleight gets to fly some packs instead of spending the day answering questions.

Any spelling/grammar/typos need fixing? Anything you would re-word, add, or remove?

An amended version can be found below …

Q: Why is the site closed?
A: The Grey Arrows Drone Club (GADC) has coordinated with English Heritage, to whom the Waverley Abbey grounds are entrusted, to close the site for the day in order to allow for cinematography by drones that require safe exclusion distances from uninvolved persons.

Q: Can I enter the grounds anyway?
A: No. We apologise for the inconvenience, but as noted on the official website, the site is closed Sunday 29 September and will reopen again as normal on Monday 30th September.

Q: Can I still attend Waverley Manor / is the café open?
A: The Manor is unaffected by the Abbey’s closure and will be operating their usual policies and hours.

Q: Why was it necessary to close the site?
A: Although certain (smaller/lighter) drones can be flown near uninvolved people, some of the drones in use today are much heavier, so in accordance with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Regulations it was necessary to close the site in order to create safe flying conditions.

Q: Can I stay here and watch / navigate the outskirts of the site?
A: Only the Abbey site itself is closed.

Q: Is this filming part of a new film / tv series?
A: No. The filming and drone flights today are non-commercial.

Q: Why did I see a drone outside of the site (flying over the fields/pond/etc)?
A: The airspace surrounding Waverley Abbey is the responsibility of the CAA (not land owners), so drone operators may choose to fly outside the bounds of the site if they deem it safe to do so.

Q: What if I do not want/agree to be recorded by a drone?
A: The drone operators are aware of privacy concerns; if a drone appears to look at you briefly it is highly likely that the operator is trying to determine where you are going in order to plot a safe route and/or make other operators aware.
The drone operations today are focused on recording the Abbey, so accidental capture of uninvolved persons is not our intent.
Please also consider that if you’re in a public location, typically the rules regarding filming people are no different to that of someone pulling out a mobile phone to take pictures/video, though we are very aware that it doesn’t feel the same and will do our upmost to respect this.
The operators are not bound by any laws to exclude people on request, however, if you are adamant, then please let one of the operators know (without entering the site) and we will try to uphold this as a courtesy.

Q: What if I disagree with English Heritage closing the site for drones and such?
A: We’re really sorry to hear this, and again apologise for the inconvenience. GADC is not in any way affiliated with English Heritage, so you would need to contact English Heritage directly.

Q: What if I think the drones are cool and want to interact?
A: If you give the drone a wave and it is safe to do so, the operator/drone may approach to give you a wave back or allow you to film them on your phones and such. The operators are all very friendly and we love to have good interactions with everyone!

Q: What is the Grey Arrows Drone Club?
A: The Grey Arrows Drone Club is a UK-based forum for drone users to share information and discuss topics related to drones and recreational flying. The club was established in 2017 and has one of the largest memberships in the UK.

Q: How do I get into drone flying?
A: You can join GADC for free and make use of the wealth of information present there. Please note before buying a drone that there are laws and regulations that you must abide by when operating a drone, so please ensure you research before purchase/flying!

Q: What if I’m a right Karen and object strongly against drones because MSM tell me these things kill people?
A : Take a deep breath, walk away, muttering under your breath about “ bloody drones, intrusion of privacy, you can’t film me in public, etc, etc” Go home and write to your MP, Local council and discuss this matter loudly down the post office on Tuesday whilst collecting your pension.
