Yes I have been using it. I was just wanting to compare the 2. DR doesn’t do the full resolution of the insta camera. So i was thinking filmora may.
Sounds fairly comparable to my Mac and I run it fine, bug projects and 4K video can kill it but i is certainly workable. Results on the YT channel posted above
Dunno about 360 - thats all magic to me lol
Im liking filmora 9 - easy layout and processes with oodles of extra effects built in. Im finding it very intuitive too particularly on export - no more waiting around for ages. Im no expert tho, just having a dabble at a better set up than Shotcut.
How big of a loan did you need for that
Like quite a few of us recently I’ve been struggling with decision on what video editing software to use this year.
A few years ago I bought (from a street trader in India) and used succesfully Pinnacle Studio 16, but this was before my MP1, 4K, days
Recently I’ve been using Video Pad from NCH
I’ve had awful experiences, extremely slow to pre-render just for basic snip/crop activities for example but today I got the reminder that my trial period had expired and I was using the ‘feature reduced’ free version.
So this afternoon I paid USD29.99 for a PRO license and the difference is AMAZING.
Loading 4K (3840x2160 25fps MP4) files and basic editing was a dream, I did not have to wait for anything to happen. It was a breath of joyful fresh air.
I assumed ‘feature reduced’ meant some of the titling/effects/bells’n’whistles were not implemented. I didn’t consider the whole software was ‘crippled’
I’m now very happy with my editing suite
Hardware is:
- Lenovo T430 laptop
- i5-3320M @ 2.60GHz
- 16GB RAM
- NVIDIA Graphics NVS 5400M
- 1TB SSD
- 1600x900 display
Running Windows 10 Pro
Now I can stop getting stressed and get some footage processed.
Cheers
Steve
Mods, feel free to move this if you wish, there are so many threads on this subject and the suggestion intro only shows the first post date, the last date would make it easier to select the current one
Steve
We’ve moved your post to this thread @Steviegeek as it was active ten days or so ago.
Yes but the point is there was no obvious way of knowing this thread was the latest active one
Hi Steve, I’ve just had a play around, the advanced search allows you to filter by certain categories, and/or order the results by Latest Topic, Latest Post, Relevance, etc.
The only problem there is, with so many topics on the exact same subject, you’d still not know which one to join
iPad and LumaFusion is my suggestion, 4K no issues, I use a iPad Pro but not essential.
Hi Rich, maybe restart them every year, things move so quick in this hobby 2018 discussions are mostly irelevant now, dare I say that
Cheers Steve
Most of the content in discussions about video editing would still be the same as before, repeated … over and over.
Until new software packages were introduced and members reviewed them maybe
Not seen a new video editor of any note appear in a long time. Just the best of what were around get updates and adapt to changes in hardware, etc.
eg: Adobe Premiere was excellent when I started using it over 20 years ago. It’s still excellent, even if not my personal preference these days.
Choice of video editor comes down a few basic facts.
- Platform Choice - and £££ you want to spend on you choice
- £££ you want to spend on the editing software
- Features you need
This will then get modified by what you’re used to - because we all think that’s “the best” and we’re reluctant to change.
Then there are addon things, eg for Adobe Premier you might want to create stuff in After Effects, you might want a decent audio editor.
That’s why I’ve ended up with Davinci Resolve.
- It’s cross platform (Win/Mac/Linux) so I’m not tied to one.
- For all but the most esoteric features it’s free.
- It has, built into it, 4 excellent modules for editing / grading / creating / audio. No swapping files/projects between apps. It’s all there - in one place.
I’ve taken OzoneVibe advice and gone for DaVinci Resolve. It has everything you need and the big plus is it’s free. I’m still getting to grips with it after 3weeks but I find the challenge satisfying when things come together. There’s plenty of tutorials out there especially on YouTube. Some are easier than others to follow but just pick the ones that suits you. I’ve found that the more you use it and mess with it the more learn. I’ve also used Filmora 9. I found it quite good and easy to use but there isn’t the content as in DR. I’ll not make a world class editor but I’m happy with what I have put together on DR. To use the editor you’ll need some pretty up to date kit or you can tweak a few settings to have it run smoothly on slower machines. All this info you can find in the tutorials on line. All in all DR is a very powerful program and I’m astounded it’s free. There are a few extras you can pay for but for what I use it for it’s more than perfect. Cheers OzoneVibe for pointing me in the direction of DR. I’m just waiting to get out there with my MA and shooting some footage. No time just lately and the weather hasn’t been the best. I’ve just finished putting together a 3 minute video of my sons dog while teaching myself DR. I’m chuffed with it tbh.
Roll on better weather.
Im finding DR a very steep learning curve AND it seems to be resource heavy. I hate working on something and then find the tech takes hours to process what I have done. Think I will stick with Filmora9 for the time being as it seems to be more intuitive and forgiving.
Like you, @Beejay, I too am trying to teach myself the in’s ‘n’ out’s of DR. In the beginning it was quite frustrating as my laptop just didn’t have the grunt to do even the basic of tasks. I recently treated myself to a Dell XPS 15 with a 4K touch screen and the difference is night and day. I’m currently trying to get to grips with the subject of colour grading.

I purchased their full course in the BlackFriday deals … not done much of it, as yet, but really enjoying what I have done.
Thank you for the link, Dave.
I have a few domestic chores to plough through, and to take my wife to work for her late shift, but once they’re out of the way I’ll knuckle down… unless I get distracted then it’ll be Chocolate Pudding, Netflix, and underwear… again
